Originally, the Romulan Stellar
Navy only equipped their imported Klingon hulls with lighter Type-G and
-F torpedos. However, the low top speeds of the Warbird-type cruisers
made using the two types of ships in battle togeather difficult.
Several of the Klingon-built cruisers were converted to use a single type-R
torpedo in place of two type-G's. This allowed heavy torpedo support
without the speed constraints of the older Warbirds. These ships were upgraded
along with the rest of the KR-cruisers. Designed by Mike West at http://www.caddocourt.com/sfb/shipyard.htm
The Gorn
are the only race lacking a Tender or Carrier on thier CA hull. This design
for a Battle Cruiser tender was done by Mike West. I adapted it to the
Heavy Cruiser+ to fill in the time and BPV gaps left between the smaller
tender ships and the DN tender. The design for the Gorn BCP also came from
Mike's site at http://www.caddocourt.com/sfb/shipyard.html.
Another
of Mike West's SFB designs, the D4 is an outdated Klingon Early-Years heavy
criuser that they might have sold to the Romulans earlier than the D6's
shown in SCF2. By the SFC2 period, they would have been re-classified as
either light cruiser or convoy escort. In his Ship System Display (SSD),
the ship is shown in un-refitted Early-Years form (2 ph-2 FX, 2 ph-2 RRR,
2 ph-2 LRR, 2 plas-G FA) . My design has anticipated a refit and replaced
the two boom ph-2's with 2 ph-1's (the same way the D6's were refitted).

These were
the oldest servicable ships in the Klingon fleet at the time of the Klingon-Romulan
alliance. Mostly, they were regulated to training squadrons; however, when
several were given to the Romulans early in the General War and proved
valuable as convoy escorts and heavy police ships, the Klingons quickly
re-commissioned as many as were still servicable. They formed a special
squadron of officer-cadets who maned each ship for a year in such roles
as suppressing rebellions, fighting pirates, escorting vital convoys, ect.
This gave new life to the old ships and produced many well-trained troops
for the front line units. From Negh'Var's
Early-Years page.
The Kingon
E3 escort was produced in greater numbers than any other ship during the
General War, due to it's small size and low cost. Being as so many
were produced, large numbers were exported and the capture of some
ships was inevitable. This file includes export models for the Romulan
Stellar Navy (2 ph-3's, 2 plas-F) and the Lyran Star Empire (2 ph-3's,
2 Dsr-1, 1 ESG). Also included is the HMS Bounty Bird of Prey,
which was stolen in Star Trek II, and a Hydran version (3 ph-G's, 2 Fusions)
, stolen during the reclamation of Hydra from the Klingons.
ISC
PPD Destroyer
ISC PPD Destroyer
Used to
give ISC destroyer squadrons a long range punch, the PPD destroyer
(1 PPD, 4 ph-1's, 4 ph-3's, 2 plas-I's) was never seen without least
two destroyer escorts in attendance. It would stand off at long range
and snipe at the opposing ships while the plasma armed vessles closed in
and attacked.
*This ship was not designed to be
balanced. It was meant to be used as a fire-support ship for destroyer
squadrons.
Due to the
large number of E4's deployed to the Hydran theater, it stands to reason
that some were captured. These two designs show how they might have
been modified for use by the Royal Navy. Included are both Fusion
Beam and Hellbore variants (2 Fus or HellB, 2 ph-2's, 2 ph-G's).
Seeing that the
E4D and E4E were no longer effective at guarding formations agianst the
better armed ships of hte Alliance, the Klingon High Command ordered that
two F5 hulls be converted into testbeds. One was to be a drone frigate,
the other an escort. Both proved more effective than the E4 varriants for
the sole reason that the F5 hull was large enough to hold the E4's 4 Drone-B
racks or 4 ADD-12 racks and still retain her disruptors. This made the
ships somewhat stronger than the E4's, but they were still not as good
as the Federation or Mirak drone or escort destroyers.
& Realizing that
they were at a marked disadvantage agianst the drone and fighter armed
ships of the Alliance, the Romulan Empire began developing escorts armed
with Plasma-D's and more phaser-3's to combat these threats. The first
ships were outdated War Eagles that were fitted out to test the principal.
After the initial successes of these older ships, escort modules were produces
for the New-Series Hawk-classes; one was developed for the Skyhawks
and one for the Sparrowhawks. They were quite useful in defending
the less well-armed Romulan squadrons.
Not having
nearly enough of their veneriable heavy cruiser hulls to meet the demand
for drone ships, Starfleet Command requisitioned a group of large ore freighters
and outfitted them with drone racks and a prodigious number of drones.
These ships were not meant for direct combat, but rather as support ships
for starbase assaults and planetary bombardments. From John Kim's Unnoficial
StarFleet Battles page. Includes versions for the Klingon Empire and
the Mirak Star League.
*These support ships are not playable.
These are playable
versions of the auxillary ships that Taldren included with SFC2 and playable
versions of the drone ships above. I've included the auxilliary carriers
and PF tenders for all races.
