French Fare Restaurant

On Deep Space 14's Promenade, Deck 29 to be more precise, you will find my favourite restaurant. It is called "French Fare", and sells good old fashioned Terran cooking. When I was at the Academy, I developed a taste for your Hew-mon food. Part of the Promenade is out in the open air, and French Fare is luckily in this part. You can go indoors or sit outside on the walkway, watching the station's inhabitants walk by.

As you enter the restaurant, you will notice a wonderful aroma of real cooked food. French Fare does not use replicators to prepare meals, it uses the old almost forgotten skill of preparing vegetables, tenderising meats and frying fish. The care taken by the staff to make the food so delicious is reflected by the popularity of the place. It is always full, and reservations are often a requirement. It doesn't matter what your taste is, the restaurant will cook it for you, but they specialise in food from Earth, especially from the old European countries. My own favourite is called coq au vin, and it is an Earth chicken dish cooked in French white wine. Yummy!

Unlike a lot of the other places on the Promenade, the restaurant will also serve alcohol. I don't tend to touch it myself, but the universe's finest ales, wines and spirits are available over the counter. There is a strict two drinks per customer limit though, in order to keep the level of inebriation to a minimum. Alcohol was replaced by synthehol quite a while ago, but some people love to get sentimental and drink alcohol. I must admit, a nice wine from France's Bordeaux region does make me feel happier about life when I am feeling a bit low, or on special occasions.

The restaurant is owned and managed by Miss Emmie. She is a hew-mon from France, and is probably in her mid to late forties. She is a lovely person, but does tend to be a bit overbearing sometimes. She likes to know the gossip about people, and can often be found whispering in corners with members of her clientele. I find her to be a very dramatic person, and she often visits Sickbay with an illness or injury which she says is life threatening, but it never is. Miss Emmie says she always sets the prices of her food and drink at a level where everybody can enjoy something.

So the next time you pay a visit to DS14, head for Deck 29 and enjoy a meal at "French Fare". I guarantee you will receive a warm welcome, and be heartily fed. You will leave happy, vowing to return again soon.
