Chock was born on the rainy planet of Ferengenar in 2348. His father was a wealthy businessman, involved in the trade of livestock, notably fowl and birds indiginous to the planet. Chock's father wanted his only son to follow in his footsteps, but Chock was destined to follow a different path.
Chock had heard of a Ferengii named Nog, who had joined Starfleet, and was serving on a starbase as an engineer. His name was famous on Ferengenar, and if there was one thing Chock wanted, it was fame. It was OK being wealthy and everything, but fame; now that was something else. Chock dreamed of his home town throwing Welcome Home parties for him, and ticker tape showers.
Much against his father's wishes, Chock applied to join Starfleet. He lied on his application, saying he was interested in biology and particularly in birds. He was amazed when his application was accepted, and somewhat in a daze, he found himself on board a Ferengi transport ship, bound for Earth.
At first, Chock thought he would be able to wing it in San Francisco, and messed around in class. Unfortunately, his class mates did not like this, and threatened him with violence if he kept it up. Chock reconsidered and began to buckle down to his studies, and realised he did, in fact, have a talent for biology after all.
He passed his examinations at the Academy. His results were not spectacular, but he passed nevertheless. Having made few friends on Earth, but having developed a taste for Terran food, he headed back home.
On his return to Ferengenar, he was disappointed to find there was no Welcome Home party, and no ticker tape parade. After just one week back home, he decided to leave again, and purchased transport to anywhere, any place. His freighter transport was headed for Deep Space 14, the first permanent Federation starbase in the Gamma Quadrant. Chock reported to Sickbay immediately, and the Chief Medical Officer at the time, Beryllia Drake, agreed to give a job to Chock. He has been there ever since.
Chock was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade on Stardate 55928.7, in the year 2378, by Captain Drake. At the time of his promotion, he was actually six days into the future on a mission to save the Alpha Quadrant from a second devastating war against the Gamma Quadrant.
Following the mission involving the Wadi, (see separate page), Commodore Drake and Commander Sol'ar recommended Chock for promotion to the rank of full Lieutenant. Chock received his new gold pip on stardate 56417.8, from Doctor Valt.
