Tree Tour: 'Fallgold' Black Ash

Location: (2004)
Les Sherman Park, south of playground, near turtle.

  • Botanical Name: Fraxinus nigra
  • Medium Moisture/Sun/Attracts Wildlife
  • Height & Spread: 10m x 6m
  • Form: high headed oval
  • Leaf: opposite; compound leaf with 7-11 leaflets;
    faintly irregulaly toothed; yellow fall colour
  • Bark: brownish-grey with shallow fissures
  • Fruit: male('Fallgold') and female trees; single seed with long wing;
    seeds hang in clusters
  • Problems: ash plant bug; ash borer; ash flower-gall mite
  • Use: good shade or boulevard tree; seeds are eaten by birds
