Tree Tour: 'Fallgold' Black Ash

Les Sherman Park, south of playground, near turtle.
- Botanical Name: Fraxinus nigra
- Medium Moisture/Sun/Attracts Wildlife
- Height & Spread: 10m x 6m
- Form: high headed oval
- Leaf: opposite; compound leaf with 7-11 leaflets;
faintly irregulaly toothed; yellow fall colour
- Bark: brownish-grey with shallow fissures
- Fruit: male('Fallgold') and female trees; single seed with long wing;
seeds hang in clusters
- Problems: ash plant bug; ash borer; ash flower-gall mite
- Use: good shade or boulevard tree; seeds are eaten by birds
