Tree Tour: Silver Buffaloberry

Location: (2004)
Rotary Park, west of pond.
- Botanical Name: Shepherdia argentea
- Drought Tolerant/Sun/Attracts Wildlife
- Height & Spread: 5m x 4m
- Form: ball-shaped but with irregular branching habit; suckers
- Leaf: opposite; silver; oval; thorns at tip of lateral branches
- Flower: inconspicuous yellow flowers in May; male and female flowers
on seperate plants, both are needed for fruit set
- Fruit: sour, red berries in tight clusters along stem
- Use: good for wildlife planting because of its suckering habit;
provides good food and cover for birds; used for jam and jelly
