Personal History

Born to a merchant family, Kharon was typical of any normal child. He enjoyed school, and worked well enough to receive above average marks in most of his subjects. His father and mother ran the family business, and although not a vast money making business, it provided more than enough for the three of them. Kharon left school at the age of 16, and from then on helped his father and mother, learning the skills of the trade. As is wont of young men who have their lives mapped for them, Kharon dreamed of adventure and leaving his life behind. In 2359, he persuaded his father to let him gain a piloting license "to help with the business". It took him nearly 9 months of hard work, including some spectacular failed landings with his instructor nearly asking him to leave twice, but on his completion of the course, his father splashed out and bought the business a small warp capable craft. With not having to pay handling fees, with Kharon now piloting the cargo to its destinations, the business boomed, and Kharon got the adventure he wanted. However his trips away, and his thirst for bigger and better things led Kharon into the clutches of one Jass Gefar, an Orion smuggler and small time gangster. At first all Kharon did was deliver a few packages back to Earth, not really knowing the identity of the Orion. The money was up front and it was no questions asked, but soon the packages became like small cargo runs and less concealable. Eventually his parents discovered Kharon’s little side venture, and tried to dissuade him from taking on any more jobs with the criminal. He reluctantly agreed, but told them he must deliver the last package to ensure he owed nothing. He successfully delivered the package, then returned to his “boss” to tend his “resignation”. Gefar didn’t take kindly to his best smuggler telling him enough was enough, and when Kharon returned to Earth, all he found of his family home was a burning ruin. His parent’s bodies were nowhere to be seen, and although officially classified as “missing” Kharon has given them up for dead. A symbol left near his house was a sign from Gefar that he would always consider Kharon a traitor and that no debt would be able to repay him. Kharon fled Earth and headed away from the well-policed sectors of the UFP. For 10 years, he became a lone free trader, buying and selling anything that will make him a profit, as well as a mercenary of sorts, but always trying to avoid any contact with Gefar or his “employees”. Then 2 years ago, he heard of the assassination of Gefar by a mystery assassin, and the break-up of his criminal gang. Even though he still has enemies (though anywhere as near as powerful as the Orion), his days as an unsettled man were over.

Today Kharon lives for the now carrying on the life he has known for the last 12 years, making profit to make his life as easy as possible. He has always seemed above the law, but sometimes ventures the wrong side of it to get the job done. Kharon has also picked up many contacts throughout his years, people who owe him favours, or people who he has worked for, who provide him with much needed information on every aspect of his work and life. Kharon has started life on Deridous 4 to continue his trade a free trader, though his mercenary days aren’t quite behind him yet.

LIMITATIONS:
Still finds his parent’s death/disappearance distressing, and has nightmares about them to this day. These have also lead to occasional bouts of heavy drinking. Kharon although a good negotiator when needed, in general conversation has the propensity to be very un-diplomatic, which has lead him into trouble more than once.
STRENGTHS:
He is a very good negotiator, both in trade deals, and in more “pressing” circumstances. Has a good knowledge of most races’ small arms, and is a pretty decent shot with them as well. Kharon also has a presence about him, not really due to his size, but the way he carries himself, and some find him very intimidating. Due to his numerous years, avoiding the law, and other security forces he has a good idea of how they work, and how to escape trouble.
QUIRKS:
Usually carries a small-concealed weapon, a hang-up from his headhunted days. Wears mirrored sunglasses most of the time.
He also follows a sort of “mercenary honour code” when taking on jobs, which although doesn’t stop him from breaking the law, ensures that, as far as will allow, the consequences will not end in violence or death.
HOBBIES/INTERESTS: ~
Apart from tuning his ship, and lounging in a bar, Kharon has no real hobbies, his life is his work and his work is his life.
PET: ~
His ship is home to a small garyat. The garyat is a small six-legged rodent-like creature, with smooth yellow brown fur, and a long snout. This garyat is a friend from his prison days, and the creature seems to have a certain connection with him, as it followed from the prison cell to his ship. Kharon feeds it, but most of the time, the garyat will roam the ship freely.
