Tango Fleet - Deridous IV

Gi-Ants

Average Height: Between 4 and 5 feet for the drones, and 6 to 9 feet for the soldiers.

Average Weight: Anything from half a ton to a ton in weight, although their appearance belies this mass.

Average Life span: Insufficient data at this time, though due to knowledge of other insectoid colony based lifeforms, a short lifespan will be made up for by quantity in numbers.

General Appearance: "Drone" Gi-Ants: Six legged, and typically ant-like in characteristics, with a pair of antennae and large mandibles. The insectoid tri-segmented body is also present. Their overall size about that of a Terran bull, or large equine, with a red bronze color over all their body.

"Solider" Gi-ants: Much larger than their drone cousins, these ants are much darker in color with several chitinous plates around the head and joints being almost black, or deep red. The body covering is also much harder and thicker, providing a natural armor, that low-level phasers and compression rifles have difficulty penetrating. They have larger antennae in proportion to their bodies, and have larger and stronger mandibles as well.

General Characteristics: As with all colony based insects, the Gi-Ants show a collective intelligence, working for the betterment of the Queen and those around her (the comparison with the Borg is quite scary). However each individual ant works on instinct, or through pheromones that are passed from ant to ant. The Solider Ants have shown more independence but still work as a group, and are naturally more aggressive with the strength to back any attack up. It has been theorized, with the only recent appearance of the Soldiers that the colonists have stumbled near to a Queen or egg nursery, and thus the colony responded with a higher level of force (the Soldiers).
