"A New Beginning ..."
October 1, 2380 - October 3, 2380

"Today is more than just the launching of another Starfleet vessel, it is the beginning of a new era for the fleet,
and for the Federation." - Federation President Arda

On October 1st, 2380 Captain William C. Eastwood steps onto the fully completed USS Discovery for the first time. At 35 years old, Eastwood is one of the younger captains in the fleet. At his command: a state of the art new Exploratory Cruiser, the USS Discovery, who's mission purpose is not one of war, or even defense, but that of peaceful deep space exploration. Among her state of the art load out, DISCAL senosrs, and the Koeller-Uti HAN 210 Mark 1 Slipstream Drive. The Slipstream drive is the dream realized that will allow the Discovery to make a long range, high speed jump deep into the Gamma and Delta Quadrants. Assigned to the reorganized Seventh Fleet, the Discovery will be the first of many Starfleet vessels to begin exploring the area between the Federation's farthest borders and the drop off point of the Bajoran wormhole.

Captain Eastwood has not come alone however, bringing with him comrades from his past, including Lieutenant Commander Ashla Bogan, and Lieutenant SG Cassie O'Neal. Appointing his close friend Ashla Bogan as the head CONN officer, they begin to prepare for the challenges ahead. Joined by Commander James P. McFadden, an experienced line officer as the XO, Captain Eastwood supervises final systems checks.

Also with them is the 224th Special Operations Group under command of hard charging Lieutenant William R. "Bones" Frost. The "Iron Wolves" are charged with bolstering the Discovery's security while she prepares to leave. In a daring raid, several of the "Iron Wolves" themselves are apprehended attempting to sabotage the Slipstream Drive. Dealing with the problem quickly, the ship is restored to order in time for commissioning.

On the morning of October 2nd, 2380, the Federation Starship USS Discovery is formally commissioned in a grand ceremony at her berth in one of Utopia Planitia's hundreds of dry-docks. Upon the conclusion of a memorable ceremony attended by the Federation president himself, Captain Eastwood and his daring crew man their stations and bring the Discovery online, and into open space for the first time. They are charged with taking the ship on a brief shakedown cruise. It is hoped that the tremendous amount of computer engineering put into systems preparations on the Discovery will mean a shakedown of weeks to a months instead nearly a year as it often was in the past.

On October 2nd 2380, the USS Discovery launched with the following officers and crew, the brightest and most daring in their respective fields, and indeed a fine example of the ideals the Federation embraces.

Captain William Clinton Eastwood - Commanding Officer

Commander James Peter McFadden - Executive Officer
