"Echoes
of the Past" February 3, 2381 - February 7, 2381 "I think we are on to something big here folks ..." Lieutenant M. Mikkel
Immediately a landing party was sent below to verify the sensor's findings. They were correct. Among the landing party were Captain Eastwood, Lieutenant Commander Conyers, Lieutenant Frost, and Ace Decade. The sight of dinosaurs kindled a renewed interest in Ace Decade to test several theories of his. Returning to the Discovery, he began a holodeck program recreating Mimban III, a place where dinosaurs could also be found - and the place he met Ashla Bogan for the first time. Enlisting Conyers unknowing help, Ace programmed the personalities of his former shipmates, and those of the USS Sunfire, the other ship on the mission to Mimban III. Immediately he began testing his theories while the Discovery crew continued their survey. Captain Eastwood was quick to act, establishing a solid base camp for the sciences teams to go into the field and study the dinosaurs in the area. Protected by Starfleet Marines from Company E, the Discovery crew began spreading out into the surrounding areas to learn all they could about the dinosaurs roaming around them in the jungles. One such away team, led by Captain Eastwood encountered the deadly Velociraptors, and the Gigantosaurus - the largest land predator in dinosaur history. Soon the Discovery crew had established a second camp on the beaches of the nearest ocean to study the sea life. In particular, one Plesiosaur had a particular interest in them, and remained in the area around camp doing tricks and splashing in the water. Nicknamed "Herbie", the Plesiosaur had a particular fondness for Commander Sadena. Also nearby was a complex cave system. On the Discovery, Ace was never able to find closure with the holodeck program, and eventually had to talk with Conyers herself about how things turned out. To his disappointment, he learned that Conyers was never really interested in him, citing their brief relationship was over before it even began. In an awkward talk, he was able to come to terms with the fact they would never be more than friends, and that they were never going to ever be more than that in the past. While the away teams were scouring the planet, the shuttles sent out by the Discovery were searching the other planets in the system for data. Lieutenant Allan G. Poole's flight of Valkyrie III fighters located a crashed derelict vessel. Immediately Lieutenant Frost and the "Iron Wolves" were dispatched to investigate. They were unable to get much more than the information in the computer core before the ship's automated defenses disintegrated the entire vessel. Searching the caves, a team lead by Commander Sadena and Lieutenant Wesley S. Hutton stumbled upon the most bizarre twist of all those found so far. In the depths of the cave, pursued by albino Velociraptors of death, an enormous black panther, who could speak Galactic Standard. In the brief time they were in contact with it, they learned of an ancient species that colonized the planet with Dinosaurs. When the away team left the cave, upon rescue by Captain Eastwood and a platoon of Starfleet Marines, things took a turn for the chaotic. A family of Tyrannosaurs ambushed them all, enticed by the report of an illegal weapon carried by 2nd Lieutenant Vonter. The concussion also caused the caves to cave in, and the panther to be cut off. In the ensuing chaos, Crewman Aaron Richardson was killed in action, and several members of the Marine platoon and cave party cut off, including Captain Eastwood and Lieutenant Commander Conyers, and Commander Sadena, and Gunnery Sergeant Stryker. Captain Eastwood and Lieutenant Commander Conyers returned to the beach around one in the morning of the seventh. Lieutenant Frost was able to make a safe recovery of Commander Sadena and Gunnery Sergeant Stryker. Upon daybreak, the Discovery crew returned to the planet, consolidating their findings, and recovering their equipment. By the afternoon of the seventh, the Discovery had left orbit, her course for the next stop on her survey path.
