-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Starfleet Engineering is a massive branch, always working on bettering current technology, and applying the the advances of tomorrow to today. Starfleet Engineering is responsible for the construction of new starships and starbases, as well as the development of the systems used on them. Starfleet engineers must be incredibly competent, and skilled in a variety of techniques including warp theory, and a variety of mechanical and electronic skills. Starfleet Engineering has a long distinguished history filled with millions of small miracles, possible with no doubt by the brilliant minds who have worked there. Starship Engineering is responsible for keeping the actual ship itself up and running as best as it possibly can. The Engineering department has specialist for every ships system, and works around the clock to make sure they are at optimum. Engineers are also responsible for major repairs and upgrades, and the brunt of damage control operations should it become necessary. Often called upon to make drastic changes or repairs in very little time, Engineers are seen, and often times see themselves as miracle workers. It is often said the the Engineer runs the ship ... and they just let the Captain act like he's in charge. This Esprit de Corps is what propelled Starfleet Engineering and Starfleet vessels to the front of the technology race. Positions: Chief Engineer - The CEO is responsible not only for the warp drive and Slipstream systems, but for every piece of equipment on the starship except for the computer (that falls under Operations). In addition to coordinating maintenance and repair efforts, the CEO is constantly looking for ways to make improvements and optimize performance. They are also responsible for managing the personnel under their command. Often times the Chief Engineer forms a personal relationship with his ship, staff and systems, treating them almost like members of a family. Assistant Engineer -The ACEO acts in the CEOs place when they are unavailable. They also supervise maintenance tasks in remote areas (such as away missions) and critical maintenance tasks when there is more than one task of the same priority (the CEO will supervise on task, the ACEO the other). The Chief Engineer's Right Hand Man, the ACEO is required to have the same working knowledge of the ships systems as the Chief Engineer. Small Equipment Shop Engineer - These engineers are the catch all. In addition to performing maintenance on small equipment (tricorders, medical equipment, replicators, etc..), they are also one of the first shops tasked when another shop needs additional hands, or when there is general work to be done (hull repair, etc). These engineers are the backbone of damage control teams. Transporter Technician - These engineers sole focus is to maintain the transporters as best as possible. Due to the delicate nature of these machines, it is imperative that they are calibrated and tuned precisely, and the engineer is nothing less than an expert in their usage. Warp Systems Engineer - By far, the largest of all the engineering specialties, or shops. These technological wizards are responsible for the Warp Core and all associated systems, including the Slipstream Drive. They also typically work on the impulse engines and RCS thrusters as well. Weapons Systems Engineer - These engineers maintain the phaser banks, photon and quantum torpedoes and torpedo launchers. They work closely with Operations and Tactical to ensure that tracking and target solution software is as accurate as possible. In addition, they perform repairs and modifications to hand weaponry such as phasers, and the EMP rifles. Defensive Systems Engineer - This shop maintains vital defense systems such as the shield generators, SIF (Structural Integrity Field) system, shield modulators and the IDF (Inertial Dampening Field) system. In addition, they assist with maintaining non-vital systems such as the tractor beams. Small Crafts Engineer - This shop is responsible for the upkeep on Federation shuttles and fighter craft. They make sure that at any time, all available small craft are ready for immediate launch, as well as make upgrades and repairs as necessary. Uniform: Standard
