No matter where I go, or what I do I plan on being competitive in it, and giving nothing less than my all."  - 2372

Recommendations-

Commander Klein, Starfleet Academy: "Cadet Eastwood, in his time at the Academy has demonstrated superior discipline and work ethics. He studies hard and trains hard. I assume this may be a combination of experience in the SFMC, and his personality.

It is my belief that Cadet Eastwood is fully prepared for deep space service as an officer on a Starfleet vessel. I hereby recommend and sponsor him on his Apprentice Cruise. Cadet Eastwood has my highest respect."

Captain Marcus Ferguson, Commanding Officer, USS Endevour: "I am writing this letter of recommendation for Cadet William Eastwood. I believe that upon his promotion and commissioning as an officer, Eastwood will serve his first ship well. He has performed above the expectations on his apprentice cruise, covering bridge duty, training organization, and personal recreation for his men.

It is my sincerest belief that William Eastwood will be an asset to the fleet, and Federation in his years of service to come. I hereby send my highest recommendation to his next commanding officer. I do have to admit, I regret letting him go. If I could, I would keep him here."

History-

Personal-

Pre-Starfleet: Born July 4, 2345 to Donald C. and Harriet L. Eastwood in Logan Utah, in the United Americas, Earth. His father was a small store owner, marketing such items as outdoor equipment, and other gear to hunters and adventurers. His mother helped occasionally at the family store, but often remained home to manage the household. She was killed in a tragic climbing accident when William was five years old. The loss affected his father profoundly, and Donald Eastwood battled with bouts of depression the rest of his life.

Since birth, William has been extremely quiet, but dedicated. When he  was young, school officials wondered if he was depressed, but these fears soon disappeared when William entered Junior High School. He later went on to graduate second in his High School class, with a GPA of 3.998  While in High School, William participated on the Basketball, Track and Marksmanship teams.

Eastwood's father Donald would die shortly thereafter William's enlistment into the Starfleet Marine Corps of natural causes. The family business has been covered by William's cousin Roger ever since, waiting for the day William returns to take over. The exact causes of Donald C. Eastwood's death have not been determined, but it is generally believed to be strongly tied with the depression of loosing his wife, and then the departure of his only son. His last recorded wishes were for his son to find happiness, create a family and live to an old age with many children to survive him.

Starfleet Marine Corps, Non-Commissioned Officer: Enlisted in the Starfleet Marine Corps shortly after graduation from High School as an infantryman. Did his basic training at Camp Lejune South Carolina, and was later assigned to his infantry MOS training at Camp Pendleton, California. After MOS training, he was assigned to the First Marine Division, Fourth Brigade, 7th "Devil Dogs" Regiment, Second Battalion, F "Foxtrot" Company as a rifleman in the first platoon's bravo squad. PFC Eastwood's regiment was stationed on the Planet of Indri Alpha at Camp Carter.

In August of 2364, Eastwood's regiment was called to active duty, along with the rest of the Brigade to help quell the violent uprising of AvaGem on Thelka IV. Classified as a peacekeeping action, the combat on Thelka IV was intense, and extremely violent. In several intense small unit actions, Eastwood was promoted to Lance Corporal, and found himself as a squad leader after his Sergeant was killed. In an intense, close quarters action in the forests of Thelka IV, Lance Corporal Eastwood and two other members of his squad earned the Combat Medal, and the Distinguished Unit Citation for the Company.

Thelka IV marked a turning point in Eastwood's life. It was not only his first action as a soldier, but the first time he was forced to deal with death on a daily basis. It had a hardening effect on his persona, and for a time he functioned like a machine, driving his squad hard, and with little respite. To this very day, Eastwood still experiences vivid dreams of the events on Thelka IV.

During his time in the infantry, his hand/eye coordination and capacity for spatial reasoning and advanced thinking gathered the attention of his superiors. A month later, he was reluctantly reassigned to Tactical Fighter Command. It was decided that perhaps a change of mission would help to calm the fires burning inside the young man, and benefit the Corps.

After reassignment, he did MOS training at Camp Bovington on Mars. After completion, he was assigned to the 113th Tactical Fighter Wing, stationed on Ceti Alpha Four. After posting, he saw little action for six months. At this time, the Cenavati began their violent uprising, and the 113th was called in to fly close air support and space superiority for the Marine Expeditionary Unit sent to quell the uprising before more innocents were hurt. In an engagement against Ceti Alphan Planetary Defense Forces controlled by the violent parties, Eastwood garnered six kills in space combat. Later decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross for duties performed that day. After this small “Police Action” Eastwood was again looking for something new. Reluctantly, he was allowed to transfer yet again, this time to the Starfleet Marine Military Police. (Eastwood was assigned the rank of Warrant Officer 2 while serving as a fighter pilot. Upon his transfer, his warrant rating expired, and he resumed his Lance Corporal Ranking.)

Eastwood was sent back to Earth and Camp Pendleton for this latest phase of his training. After completing this latest MOS training, he was assigned to Risa, as part of the Second Marine Division, Fifth Brigade, "Perseus's Shield" Regiment, Third Military Police Battalion, C "Charlie" Company as a Military Policeman assigned to patrol duties. He was partner with Master Sergeant James Connery, who would become a lifelong friend.

On Risa, Lance Corporal Eastwood carried out his duties on a daily basis. Was commended several times for finding ways to diffuse extremely violent situations without the use of deadly force, a stark career contrast to his beginnings on Thelka IV.

For outstanding service, he was promoted to Full Corporal, Sergeant, Staff Sergeant and then Gunnery Sergeant. Gn Sgt. Eastwood was later involved in a shooting at a popular bar on the Risan Beach. The suspect was killed, and GnSgt Eastwood was detained by the CID Division of the Military Police pending investigation of the incident. He was cleared of any wrongdoing and was returned to duty four days later. At this time, the tensions with the Dominion were escalating, and Eastwood’s superiors thought he would be of better service to the Federation as a trained, commissioned officer. Within a short time, he was reassigned and transferred to Starfleet, and entered the Academy as soon as possible.

Academy: Dedicated to studies. Eastwood already knew what combat was like, and was able to easily pass weapons and self defense classes. He excelled in Operations and Strategic Operations classes. Outstanding performance on cadet cruises.  During his four years at the Academy, he specialized in Ships Operations and Security/ Tactical. He also kept his fighter pilot certification as an extra. Eastwood did fairly well in the Academy, always in the top third of his class. Often called to assist in teaching Security classes because of his experience as an MP. Also an assistant hand to hand combat instructor his Junior and Senior years. Later graduated with honors, 24th in his class.

Commission: After graduation, Ensign Eastwood was assigned to the USS Honorius, a newly commissioned Sovereign class ship as a operations officer. Later promoted to full Lieutenant, and position as Chief Operations Officer.  He fought in the last major battles of the Dominion war, including the final push for Cardassia where he earned the Silver Star. Wounded three times and received Purple Hearts accordingly. Also earned the Distinguished Service Cross in the action to re-capture Deep Space Nine. After the war, Eastwood remained on the Honorius, while that vessel lead a task force patrolling the DMZ, and exploring space along the Cardassian borders. When the Honorius was sent back to Utopia Planitia for general overhaul, asked for, and was transferred to USS. Liberty.

His stationing on the USS Liberty was a drastic turning point in his life. Eastwood arrived aboard the Liberty on the 16th of June, 2378. This was the very day that the Liberty was captured by forces loyal to the "Black Dragon" an intergalactic gang who had ambitions of destroying a significant part of the Starfleet. It was at this time William met Commander Ashla Bogan, who would later factor significantly in his life. The two were telepathically connected, a connection that has remained unbroken since. At the time, Ashla Bogan and Eastwood had a merely formal relationship, but William secretly harbored deeper affections for her. However, his sense of honor would not allow him to express them while she was involved with Captain Decade.

With some luck, the Liberty's crew was able to recapture the vessel, and allow Commander Bogan to escape. Captain Decade had already been captured and taken away, and Eastwood found himself under the command of Lieutenant Commander Wil Parks, the Liberty's Chief of Operations. Because of his piloting experience, Eastwood was selected to CONN the Liberty in the upcoming battle.

The Battle of Exbralia was one of the largest seen since the Dominion War. Elements of the Seventh, Fourth, and Fifth fleets engaged the Black Dragon, and their armada of captured Starfleet vessels. In a hard fought engagement, they were ultimately successful, and managed to send the Black Dragon reeling. It was at this time Ashla Bogan went AWOL, frustrated by the seeming lack of concern for Ace Decade (who she was involved with at the time) and feelings she was receiving from Eastwood. Much to the Lieutenant Commander's distraught, he was selected to aid the Military Police in capturing Commander Bogan, and returning her to justice. At this time Eastwood also met his half sister, Cassie O'Neal for the first time. The two were not offered much of a chance to catch up before Eastwood, and his old MP partner James Connery were sent in pursuit of Commander Bogan.

The resulting pursuit taxed both Eastwood and Bogan to their breaking points emotionally. Where Ashla Bogan buckled, Eastwood remained stalwart, and was able to function, something his background prepared him well for. At the culmination of the chase, Eastwood confronted and killed the known pirate, murderer and rapist Metak before he could assault Ashla Bogan. Subsequently he returned her to Earth where she stood trial.

When Ashla Bogan was found guilty, Eastwood immediately resolved to not allow her to be incarcerated for life. Expending all his accumulated interest from his savings on the refit of an old Oberth class vessel the S.S. Freivogel, Eastwood broke Ashla Bogan from prison, and fled with her towards the outer rim of the galaxy, where in his eyes, he could oversee the proper recovery of her destroyed persona.

Shortly thereafter, Eastwood and Bogan once again crossed paths with Captain Ace Decade, and the USS Liberty. The Liberty was in dire need of assistance, and requested their help. Against what Eastwood considered to be his better judgment, they did help, loosing the Freivogel in the process. At this time Ace Decade requested they join his crew under the aliases of "Envy Conyers" and "Clint Eastwood." Here Eastwood was assigned command of the Liberty S.W.A.T. team.

Eastwood was present for the second mission to Mimban III, and the hostage situation involving Admiral Paris. During this time, Ashla Bogan made small steps towards emotional recovery, and Eastwood's intense dislike for Ace Decade grew. During their time on the Liberty, Ace Decade did all he could possibly do to Eastwood short of breaking the law. Every poor assignment drawn was handed down to him, and he was frequently ignored in the command meetings. It was something Eastwood would never forget, and by his admissions at the time - never forgive. Since 2378-79 Eastwood has once again seen an attitude shift back to his normal relaxed persona, but at the time his demeanor could be described as a cold detachment and severe disdain for the Liberty crew, and the vessel itself.

Upon the discovery of their presence on the Liberty, Eastwood received an unofficial reprimand for his conduct, and was assigned as a Strategic Operations officer to the USS Liberty now under the command of Captain Jeremiah Griffith. To his relief, Ashla Bogan was assigned as Chief Engineer. However by now, the atmosphere on the USS Liberty had drained the fire from the officer's drive.

Eventually ethical concerns with the conduct of fellow officer Leto Corrino of a classified nature, both Eastwood and Conyers requested, and received transfer to another vessel, the USS Conqueror. Eastwood was not on the Conqueror long, just long enough in fact to secure his transport to Earth, where he was immediately pulled into the Discovery Class Research Project as an advisor to Operations and Strategic Operations.

On Earth, Eastwood was quickly promoted back to full Commander, and then to captain almost as fast as his paperwork could be processed. Hand selected by the project leader Admiral Westmoreland, Eastwood was prepared to be the USS Discovery's first commanding officer. Immediately Eastwood requested that Noelani Conyers join him on the Discovery as his second officer. Also among those requested were his half sister Cassie O'Neal, and Leto Corrino.

Addenda:

November 9, 2364 - Lance Corporal Eastwood has completed a mandatory psychological screening after return from Peacekeeping Operations on Thelka IV. Lance Corporal Eastwood appears to be managing well, and has a mild case of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. After counseling and evaluation it has been determined that his case of PTSD is unlikely to be lasting or debilitating in any way. I am clearing Lance Corporal Eastwood to rejoin his regiment and to return to full time active duty in his prior posting. -- First Lieutenant Haley Davis - SFMC

August 18th, 2367 - Gunnery Sergeant William C. Eastwood has been found to be innocent in any wrongdoing in the shooting incident occurring at Kazanski's Bar and Grill, Risa on day of August 3, 2367. Gunnery Sergeant Eastwood, and Gunnery Sergeant Connery's conduct on 3 August was determined to be justified, and necessary, and their service is commended for their lifesaving actions. -- First Lieutenant Robert Gimball - SFMC Military Police, Risa

December 29th, 2380 - Captain Eastwood has been cleared to return to duty after his return from Tychor IV. I believe that he has not fully been able to let go of what happened there, and the feelings of guilt and inadequacy. However, he is fit to carry on his duties. I am recommending that he return to duty under supervision until he has fully recovered. -- Lieutenant SG Pia Porta, Ship's Counselor - USS Discovery, NCC-79431

January 2nd, 2381 - Captain Eastwood's first psychological evaluation of the year has shown a marked increase in his positive attitude traits in comparison to the evaluation on 12/29/80. It appears to me that the wounds inflicted last year at Tychor IV are almost completely healed.
