------------------------------------------- Security - Starfleet's Security branch covers all security aspects of the Federation, including Intelligence. The head of Starfleet security works closely with the Admiralty to help provide up to date situations on the status of the Federations allies and enemies. A limited number of security officers act as police when there are no SFMC Military Police available. Starfleet Security is broken into two distinct areas: Intelligence and General. The Security department on a starship is responsible for maintaining a safe environment, and providing for the general safety of the ship, equipment and information as a whole. Security is almost like a police force in some respects, for when there is a problem, security is often the first called to the scene. Therefore they acts as police, investigators, and when need be, soldiers. On Federation starships, security provides for the safety of personnel on away missions, and is responsible for all shipboard intelligence. Tactical - Starfleet Tactical works in tandem with Starfleet security to provide up to date defenses for the fleet, and Federation as a whole. Tactical personnel are trained to have a wide knowledge of tactics, and be familiar with modern weapons systems and their uses. On a fleet level, tactical manages fleet battle plans, and possible routes of action of a military nature. Both security and tactical work closely with the Starfleet Marine Corps. The Tactical department on a starship manages all of the exterior aspects of ships security. They are also responsible for the upkeep and operations of the shipboard weapons systems, and defensive systems. All ship to ship combat is under the control of tactical officer on duty. Tactical personnel are trained in a wide variety of ship to ship and fleet combat, as well as weapons systems as how best to use them. Positions: Chief of Security/Tactical - The Chief of Security is also the head of the Tactical department. This officer is skilled in both fields, and acts as a coordinator for all aspects of ship's defense. The Chief of Security/Tactical is also the lead investigator in criminal investigations, and is responsible for the safety of all personnel and resources on the ship. Tactical Officer - A tactical officer handles sensor probes, message buoys, tractor beams, and during alert conditions, long and short range sensor arrays from the assigned station on the bridge. In a combat situation the tactical officer coordinates closely with CONN to maneuver the ship in the best way possible while engaging the enemy with the shipboard weapons systems. Security Officer - The Security Officer is the backbone of the security department. Security officers work a variety of jobs from guard duty, brig officer, to routine patrol of the ship. Generally Security Officers are armed while on patrol, and are trained in a variety of hand to hand combat techniques, as well as the use of handheld weapons. Security Officers may be Commissioned, or Non Commissioned Officers. Typically while on patrol they work in teams of two. Security officers spend their day monitoring internal security sensors, guarding sensitive areas, conducting random patrols, investigating crimes, neutralizing potentially aggressive personnel, guarding brig prisoners, and reviewing Starfleet wanted persons reports. Security Officers, as a general rule, are a must on any away mission. Uniforms: Standard Duty Uniform
