Wadi Nisah

After a long week working in Sunny Saudi, and further business in Jeddah coming up, I took my weekend break in Riyadh in order to do some exploring around Riyadh, something that I had not done since the late 80’s, and oh how so much has changed.

Riyadh has grown considerably, the traffic worse than ever, so it was great relief to get out to the desert and find space.

Today’s plan was to visit Wadi Nisah, which apparently had been hit by severe flooding at the beginning of January, so we set off down the escarpment, hung a left then a right at the chicken farms where we found something strange.

Notice anything strange about the camels above

We continued to drive past the Red Sands and then another drop in altitude into Wadi Nisah where we were greeted by some of the locals

After airing down, we set over some small dunes only to discover that the fence, which previously blocked the easy way in, had also been washed away in the flood.

There was however some soft stuff to encounter in the wadi, and plenty of evidence to show how fast the flood waters had run with debris caught on the small bushes and some bushes uprooted.
