Friday morning, bit of a late start and a deadline to meet as I was flying to Jeddah at 6pm, so the trip planned was near Riyadh.
Dave had contacted a fellow South African Daryl to join us (4L Jeep Cherokee) and another guy Wayne (4.5L Nissan Patrol), neither of whom had much off road experience.
Off we set to some dunes near Janadriya on the outskirts of Riyadh. Whilst airing down I noticed so much trash around ... this was obviously a place where the locals come to play and the Quad rental places were in abundance.
Off we set nevertheless and found ourselves in real easy dunes with easy slipfaces and a fair bit of chewed up sand.
We spotted some dense black smoke coming from a vehicle in the dunes, however on closer investigation it turned out to be a Saudi lighting his barbie.
I rode in both the Jeep and the Nissan, Wayne was a bit aprehensive on the ridges so he asked me to show him how it was done and I got behind the wheel of the Patrol .... not my cup of tea really, but fun nonetheless
