Day 4 continued

Broken Shock Absorber

Ian eventually pitched up having not noticed anyone behind for some time. Fortunately he had managed to get in contact with Mike and Linda via cell phone and we had a new position to head for on a proper gatch track

Another check of Be's vehicle revealed a broken shock absorber, and it was decided that best thing to do was drive slowly and carefully to Al Mazyunah

Bush repair

On meeting up with Mike and Linda we made some temporary repairs to the suspension unit in order to straighten up the wheel to avoid damage to the tyre bearing in mind that we only had one spare left for Be's car as she had a puncture two days previous.

We then carried on at a sedate pace with Be leading, the scenery was awsome and we then found ourselves between the Oman and Yemen border posts at Al Mazyunah without realising it.

I headed left to be confronted by the official Oman border post, radiod back and told the others to follow me as Mike was convinced that Al Mazyunah was to the right.

Our next hour was spent here, as this was now officially Eid Al Adha, no officers were here, and nobody spoke English. My Arabic is not that great, but I was the only person amongst us whose vocabulary extended beyond As Salam Ali Kum

After some time and strange conversation inside the main police building, and a cup of horrible tea with condensed milk and sugar in it, we were free to go. In the small border town we found a garage to weld the top of the suspension unit, which was knackered, and I carried on to Salalah to meet up with my wife and daughter who had flown down from Dubai the night before
