Game: "Scoopa!!"
Text by: Carlos

First, remove all the 8's, 9's and 10's and the jokers from the pack. This is a game of 40 cards only.
NOw there are 2 versions; 2-man and 4-man Scoopa, so I'll give you both.

2-man

Deal 3 cards to the other person,3 cards to yourself and 4 cards face upwards in the middle.
The idea of the game is to make points and there are severalways of doing this.

1) Have the most cards at the end of the game. 1 point.

2) Have the most diamonds at the end of the game (6 or more). 1 point.

3) Have the most 7's at the end of the game. 1 point (This is the primiera. If each player has 2 7's then the most 6's wins the primiera).

4) Have the 7 of diamonds at the end of the game. 1 point.

5) Make a "Scoopa" during the game. Each Scoopa is worth 1 point.

You play to a total of 12 points. Easy.

So, what is a Scoopa and how do you play.

Basically, you play a card face up onto the table. If it corresponds to another card already on the table, eg you play a 5 and a 5 is already down, you remove both cards and keep them till counting up at the end.
IF you take away the last card left on the table by playing the same card, then that is a "Scoopa!" and you make a point. The other way of taking a cards from the table is by adding up totals. So, for example, if there is a 5 and 3 on the table, you can play a jack (jack is worth 8, queen 9, king 10 remember) and take both cards, but only if there is NOT a jack on the table. You may take as many cards as you like, up to maximum of 10 of course (king is the highest card).

After you remove take a scoopa, the other player must then play a card and if you happen to have a simliar card then you will take the next scoopa, until the other player produces something you don;t have. When you have both played your 3 cards in your hand, then the dealer (the same dealer as before) deals another 3 cards to each player and the game continues until there no cards left.

On the final play, whoever wins the last pair of cards from the table also removes any cards not won as their own.

The cards are then counted up, diamonds, 7's king etc etc and the points tallied. The winner reaches 12 first. If no-one reaches 12 on the first game, then another game is played with the dealer changed, and so on until someone wins.

A great 2-man game!! I hope I explained it well enough!

4-man Scoopa

This is basically the same game with a few twists.

Firstly;
ALL 40 of the the cards are dealt to 4 players (10 cards each).

Your partner plays opposite you and NO exchanges can be made, either cards or verbally about the cards that each of you have. You must guess from what is played during the game.

The player to the left of the dealer plays the 1st card on the table. Before this there are no cards present, hence the next player can immdeaitely take a "Scoopa!" on the first "real" go.
The game then carries on as before, BUT there are a few extras...

1) There is an extra base point for the king of diamonds as well as the 7 of diamonds.

2) The ace is a "super card". Instead if being worth one, it is worth nothing but takes ALL the cards on the table. You can't use the ace on the first go, but you can use it ANY time after that.

3) ace, 2, 3 of diamonds, if won by partners makes 3 points! If you also get the 4 its 4, the 5, 5 and so on. You MUST have the ace, 2, 3 though.
