Junior Provincials in

 Cote-St-Luc

Day 2

Lynx Over Valleyfield & the Lions Roar into Semi-Final Match Against the Lynx

Sundays afternoon match between Valleyfield and the NDG Lynx lived up to it's expected billing. The Lynx took a 4 - 0 lead scoring three runs in the first inning and one in the second but, Valleyfield chipped away at the lead until finally in the top of the 7th, they tied it up.

On we went to the bottom of the 7th inning, and Valleyfield's pitcher walked the first two batters and gave up hit to Danilo Cardoza to short right field to load the bases. With the bases loaded, Sebastian Meltzer hit a ground ball back to the pitcher and then Valleyfield began to turn  what should of been a 1-2-3 double play but, the catcher for Valleyfield in making his thrown down to first base, to complete the double play, over-threw his 1st baseman allowing Michael Fitzsimmons, with his hand pumped in the air, to come around to score the winning run. Talk about excitement.

Lions Roar as Hopes Soar

The NDG Lions have also had an excellent showing at the Provincials. Like the Lynx they are 2 - 0 after beating Coteau du Lac 12 - 9 & Verdun 10 - 9.  Coaches, Solomon Schachner and David Tawil, have lit a fire under this young team and boy have they delivered. Leading the team offensively are Adam Schachner who has four hits in six at bats, Jamal Burgin who has three hits in five at bats, including two doubles, and Patrick Provencher who has knocked in five runs with three timely hits.

Triple-Play Turned by Lions

In the first inning of the NDG Lions game against the Verdun Blue Jays, the Lions pulled off a triple-play. In the first inning with runners on first and second and in motion on the delivery of the pitch, the batter lined the ball back to pitcher David Gian for the first out. David then threw the ball to first baseman Jamal Burgin for the second out, and Jamal threw the ball to second baseman Chris Kouzounas for the third out. How about that!!!
