NDG Awards - 2005

Co-Presidents Terry Doucet & Lionel Geller emceed the awards ceremony last night, Thursday August 25th, at the Coaches Banquet.

The first awards that were presented were the President's Awards. The President's Award is given to those volunteers that the President believes has gone over and above in their contribution to the league.

The President's Awards

Charlie Hinley

As Terry Doucet mentioned, Charlie has been involved with NDG Baseball for many years as an umpire. While we have many umpires in the league Charlie is truly in every sense of the word an example of what a Little League umpire should be. Not only does he officiate a game fairly but has encouraging words for the players when things don't go as planned. Charlie is truly a delight for our teams and opposing teams to be associated with.

Charlie also has taken it upon himself to clean the Loyola 1 club-house. For the past few years, on his own time, Charlie spends one to two times a week cleaning the washrooms and the storage areas so the kids and parents can feel comfortable using our facilities. If it wasn't for Charlie, Loyola 1 club-house would be a total disaster.

Donna Lesage

Donna is NDG Baseball's treasurer. As treasurer she is not only responsible for processing our financial reports but she is in charge of monitoring NDG Baseball's primary source of revenue, Bingo, which occurs every Tuesday night for the entire year. This year Donna was also in charge of special events and therefore, organized fun day, organized and prepared the meals for the Coaches Banquet as well as for other smaller NDG Baseball gatherings throughout the year. She also helped out with the Minor Division.

Greg Pernell

Greg has been one of the go-to guys for NDG Baseball for many years. When a field has been drenched with rain, Greg is usually the one that can be counted on to get the field ready no matter what the hour of the day.

Greg also worked full-time as a volunteer during: the Michelin Tournament, the Junior Provincials, and Fun Day. He was also one of the Junior Lynx practice coaches and its' equipment manager.

Katherine Gall

Katherine has been one of NDG Baseball's most unseen but not unnoticed  committed volunteers. This year Katherine volunteered full-time during: the Michelin Tournament, the Junior Provincials, and Fun Day.

Jim Mavrokefalos

Jim currently lives in Ile Perrot yet was still fully active in NDG Baseball activities as the Registrar and for Field Reservations. During Board Meetings, Jim also acted as a consultant on issues and was instrumental in researching the newly adopted split season proposal which will be implemented starting next year.

The previous two years, Jim was league president and last year won the award for the Borough Administrator of the the Year.

Coaching Staff of the Year

Minor Lynx Staff:

Jason Doucet, Jesse Gouldson,  & Bradley Thomas

by Terry Doucet

NDG Baseball received the following recommendation for our Coach of the Year Award.  We cannot think of a better description to outline the reasons for the selection:

"It has been an honor and a privilege to have these three young men coach and mould our son into the player and person he has become. In the last two years as the coaching staff of the Minor Lynx these three coaches have done an amazing job of developing the future stars of NDG Minor Baseball. I have never seen 9 and 10 year olds smile and have so much fun while learning very difficult skills (and boy did they learn) as they did under the tutelage of these three coaches."

I would also like to add that after speaking with quite a few veteran administrators from NDG and other organizations in Little League Quebec that to their knowledge, they have never seen the President and board of L.L.Q. stand up at an annual provincial meeting and praise a coaching staff from any league the way they did for these three coach's for their conduct and class at last year's Minor Provincial Tournament.  Any of our children who were lucky enough to have these three young men as coaches this year and last will be reaping the rewards for years to come of the valuable skills and life lessons they learned from them. What else can we ask for.

NDG Baseball is very pleased and honoured to bestow its highest coaching award to: Jason, Jesse and Bradley.

Volunteer of the Year

 Junior Tournament Director:

 James Rankine

By Terry Doucet

James Rankine was an incredible work-horse for NDG Baseball. Some of his many achievements include:

      - Indoor fundamentals training throughout the winter

      - Filling in for the Senior Lynx coach

      - Helping out with the Junior Lynx

      - Director of Junior House League

      - Director of Michelin Tournament (a 50 hour weekend)

      - Director of Quebec Provincial Junior Championships (2 weekends of 50 hours)

      - Webmaster

      - Coaching House League and competitive teams this year when needed

      - Arranging the park time for all Junior and our Senior teams at Loyola-1 this year

NDG Baseball is very pleased and honoured to bestow its highest award to James.

James mentioned in his acceptance speech that while he was honored to receive the award he knows that there are many in the organization who have done a vast amount of work this year and that could of easily won this award, notably:

Celine Massy, who co-convened the Junior Division with James as they worked in tandem during the Michelin and Junior Provincial tournaments.

Donna Lesage who worked as treasurer and special events coordinator

Terry Doucet who was co-president, ran our pitching clinic during the winter and our coaches clinic during the spring. He was an instrumental help at the Michelin Tournament, and was a full-time scorekeeper at the Junior Provincials and Fun Day.

Lionel Geller who could be seen everywhere at every level of NDG Baseball this year worked as: co-president, equipment manager, convener for the: Novice, T-Ball, & Senior Divisions, was a major contributor at the Michelin Tournament & Fun Day, and is generally seen as the main resource person in NDG Baseball.
