In The Mouth Of Madness
Episode #4

Admiral Star requests the Liberty return to Starbase as soon as possible. Three days later they return to San Fransico. Star and Ace have a private talk where Ace is told about a new threat to the Ferderation, Captain Luke Goric of the USS Falcon, Ace's old roomate from Starfleet Academy, who has ordered the surrender of the Federation. All that is known at the time is that the Falcon was attempting to tansport Borg technology back from a deserted planet when it dissappeared. Later, Goric returned as a self proclaimed God and destroyed an outpost with an enhanced energy beam as proof of his power.

In response, the Liberty's crew is asked to meet with Goric with false surrender plans, and try to infilitrate the Falcon and assassinate Goric. Ace reluctanly agrees to take the mission, knowing full well that the Liberty would face it's most dangerous foe yet.

The Liberty then schedules the meet with Goric, and as the deadline approaches, Sutak , along with others, get worried that Goric may be immpossible to beat. None so more then Hawkins, who after reviewing all the data on Goric, becomes increasingly worrisome that he may be impossible to defeat. He decides to see what Lt. Commander Tavik thought of their chances.

Tavik did not expect any surprises from Goric, however, he still decided to work on the ships weapons. Creating shields and phasers that alternate in frequency. He also thinks an creating an algorithm that has no end, one which the Enterprise D thought of to defeat the Borg, by confusing them and shutting them down. However, the Enterprise never used it, so it was only useful in theory.

Later, it is revealed Goric is expecting to kill the crew and assimilate Decade, however this plan is not known to the Captain or the crew. Goric hails the Liberty and demands a surrender, only allowing Ace to beam over. However, Decade forces Goric to allow a 5 man away team to beam over. Their mission, find out all they can about Goric, and his anti-matter cannon, then assasinate him and blow the ship up.

Buitlier had discovered a way to deflect the blasts of the cannon, but, this can only be done if the shields are changed from one function to the next, leaving the ship open for a normal attack in the special sheilding mode.

During the meeting of the away team, Hawkins suggests using an EMH of Montbourget during the visit, that way Mont, could use his inherint cloaking abilities to hide himself and find a way to destroy the ship. Mont decided to travel in a cargo instead of traveling with the away team, thereby making him an "Ace" up the Liberty's sleeves. However, when the team beamed over they are ambushed, and the Captain is taken away to Gorics chambers while the crew is rendered unconscious.

When the team awakens, they find themselves in the Brig, minus the Captain. They decide to introduce Tavik's algorithm into the ship through an unshielded computer terminal. After it is introduced, Tavik figues they have thirty-six hours to get to Captain Decade before the Falcon and the drones start to go hay wire. Sutak disables the forcefield and the team is on their way.

During the same time, Goric is revealing his plans to Decade about the Federations domination. He intends to assimilate the Liberty crew and take over the vessel. This will give him the added advantage of new technology to further his goals in taking over the Federation. Ace argues with his former roomate, but is awe stricken when Goric changes into the face of Ace and orders the Liberty to lower it's shields. When the Liberty does this, Goric beams over with hundreds of drones and takes control.

Luckily, the algorithm starts to take effect and the drones start to become incapacitated, along with the Falcons warp cores. This gives the away team twelve minutes to find Decade and beam off the ship before it is destroyed.

After finding Ace, they hail the Liberty, where Goric orders Decade to beam over alone or the crew would parrish. The Captain decides on a different route, locking the Liberty with the Falcon by the use of a tractor beam. He beams over, and sees that all the drones have failed, forcing Goric to let the away team beam aboard the Liberty or else the tractor beam would not be released. In an act of totally irrationality, Goric fuses his mind with the computer once the team is aboard. Tavik severs him from the Liberty and sends him over to the Falcon to await destruction.

Goric pleads for his life, offering to explain exactly what happened if they will only transport him off the ship. Decade decides to beam him into the brig for interrogation, and the Liberty speeds off right as the Falcon explodes. Goric explains that the technology he found was an ancient Borg Assimilation machine. It took over the Falcon and started to assimilate random people. He tried to stop it, yet it became too powerful, though, through use of the Falcons computer, Goric found he could manipulate the device and the drones. In a sense, he would head the collective.

Goric hands them a tricorder with the Borg Data. Sutak feels that it would be best to destroy the data to severe any chances it may have of corrupting the Liberty. Ace decides to drop Goric off on the nearest inhabitable planet, even though he had orders to kill Goric, he couldn't harm an old friend. If Goric was sent to trial, one of the family members of the Falcon or of the outpost would surely kill or tortue him to death. The humane thing would be to let him live on a small planet for the rest of his days in repentence.
