Where No Man Has Gone Before
Upon arriving in the Kraven system, the Liberty
encounters an advanced Romulan starship, a Phoenix,
possessed of an ultra-powerful weapon that can destroy
small moons. Without warning the Romulan Phoenix fires
a torpedo directly at the USS Liberty. If it connects,
the Liberty would be completely destroyed.
Suddenly Q appears, but is only visible in the eyes
of Lt. Rynn Bannister. Q convinces Rynn that the crew
desperately needs his help. But he will only help the
crew, if Rynn gives her word to help him. At his mercy
Rynn has no choice but to accept Q's offer. Magically
Q makes the torpedo and the Phoenix dissapear.
Rynn alerts Ace that she has just "Signed a treaty
with the devil." She warns Ace and the others that Q
was the one that made the Phoenix vanish. Frustrated,
Ace sends Rynn to her quarters and rounds up an away
team to view the planet below.
Captain Decade, Lt. Connelly, Damien Hawkins, Ensign
Roberts and Ensign Quinse beam to Kraven IV. When they
arrive, the Mayor of Capital City, Kranal awaits them
with open arms. However, the away team quickly
discovered that it was a set-up between the Klingons
and the Romulans. Kranal imprisons the five crew
members in his cell below the Council Chambers.
Meanwhile Rynn Bannister and her husband Sutak were
teleported to a sandy planet with Q. Q explains to
them that he needs their help, because now there is a
new Q (Q2) about to take his place, that is mentally
deficient. Q2 brought the Romulans and the Klingons
together so they can take out the USS Liberty and
later...the entire federation. Bannister and Sutak
agree to help Q. Q2 appears and explains to the three
that he created the device for the Romulans and
convinced then that if they joined forces with the
Klingons, then they could easily destroy the entire
Federation.
On the planet, Captain Decade and the others escape
Kranal's cell and head outside only to be surrounded
by a street full of Klingons and Romulans, who
unfortunately have the rest of the Liberty crew in
custody thanks to Q2. Commander Vortof, leader of the
Romulans, strikes Ace with a thundering blow to the
face. Gorath leaps at Vortof but is shot by Kranal.
The Mayor quickly points the phaser at Ace's head, but
is stopped by Q. Q explains to to Q2 that if he wants
to be like him, he would have to show more
responsibility. Q tells Q2 that if he allows the
Romulans and Klingons to destroy the Federation, then
the two parties would soon afterwards turn on one
another and Q2 would be responsible for an all out war
in the galaxy. Beginning to understand, Q2 sends
Vortof and his Romulans across the galaxy and beams
the Liberty crew back to the bridge.
