Once you have cleaned the entire ear canal and are sure it is clean you need to make a few last “sweeps” with a cotton puff to remove any loosened dirt and help cool the skin which will be quite warm because of increased blood flow during the cleaning. I use a small amount of alcohol on the puff to do this and generally use 3 or 4 puffs until they come out totally clean after a couple of “sweeps”. In this photo you can see how I have “corkscrewed” the puff into the ear canal and will then sweep it around the sides to both sweep the ear canal and remove the puff it in a single motion. In this case I prefer the cotton puff as it is more flexible and conforms to the ear canal contours more readily than the make-up removal pad.

As with the ear canal a few final cotton puffs are used to sweep the folds at the opening of the ear canal and the underside of the ear flap.

Once clean the ear needs some sort of treatment to help slow wax/dirt accumulation, to combat infection and help soothe the ear. I generally use the Panalog ointment, two or three drops introduced deep into the ear canal. An ear cleaner such as R-7 Natural Ear Cleaner or equivalent sold at good pet supply shops can also be used. My prime criterion here is that any ear treatment used should be totally free of oil and preferably will have an antibiotic in it.
The best for last!
