Gunung Rabung(1539m) Gunung Rabung is situated in Felda Prasu, Kelantan. The trek usually takes 4 days, 2 days up and 2 days down. Gunung Rabung is one of the lesser known mountains and bringing a machete would be a good idea as sometimes some parts of the trail gets too overgrown with ferns. Be careful as tigers roam the logging roads. The trek starts with a bus ride from Kota Bharu to Felda Prasu. From there the bus will stop at a coffee shop where it is another 1 hr hike to a logging road. First day Follow the logging road until you pass some abandoned kongsi on your left. Once in a while you'll see a big river on your right. The first night will be along the logging road, or at Milo Camp, which is about 1 hr from the logging road.
Second day On the second day, from Milo Camp, it'll take one whole day to reach Taman Camp, But be careful as some parts of the way is usually blocked with ferns and you'll have to hack your way through. The last bit is very steep. At Taman camp, there is no place to pitch up tents. Either you sleep under a flysheet or bring a hammock. There is a small river for bathing slightly on the right. Gunung Rabung peak is about 1 hour further up , and is rather small and can only fit perhaps about 2 tents. What people normally do is spend the night at Taman Camp and hike up to the peak the next day. Third and fourth day After visiting the peak, it is possible to trek down to Milo Camp or the logging road in one day .The next day will be a half day walk to the bus stop. |
