History Born on a distant and all but forgotten Klingon colony close to the Romulan border, Wok'tal spent his first eight years of life living in abject poverty. His father was a disgraced warrior from a once noble Klingon family. He was killed even before Wok'tal was born, when he volunteered for what turned out to be a suicide mission in the vain hope of regaining his honour. His mother was from a low Klingon house and worked as a food preparer for the colony chief. When Wok'tal was around eight, his mother too died leaving Wok'tal an orphan. His only living relative as a distant great uncle who was serving aboard a Klingon bird of prey the 'Tel Vok'. Reluctantly, his uncle took the boy into his family and put him to work as in the galley, although he never acknowledged the fact that the two were related. Wok'tal had no fighting experience, with no 'father figure' to teach and train him these traditional Klingon practises had been abandoned. His first taste of battle came when he was around twelve when the 'Tel Vok' was attacked by the Borg. Wok'tal picked up a Bat'leth from a fallen Klingon warrior and started to slash his way through the ship, fighting more through instinct and brute force than skill. He managed to kill or seriously wound eleven Borg drones single-handed and was one of only three member of the crew to survive. When the three Klingons were rescued by a Federation troop carrier, Wok'tal got his first taste of the Federation and more specifically the Federation Marines. The three Klingons spent nearly a month aboard the carrier before being transferred to a Klingon vessel. During this time, the two Klingon warriors who turned out to be brothers grew to learn of Wok'tal's background, but also realised that Wok'tal was a born warrior. Both Klingons attempted to teach Wok'tal about his Klingon heritage and used the holodecks onboard the carrier to teach him basic combat techniques. When the three of them left to return to the Empire, the two brothers went through the 'R'uustai' or bonding ritual to join Wok'Tal into their house. The next four years were a complete contrast to his first twelve years. He attended the Klingon warriors academy, leaning fighting techniques which seemed to come naturally to him. However, he always thought back to the Federation vessel that had rescued him and after graduating, he travelled to Earth where he attended the Federation foreign academy for a year, where he learnt to read, write and speak Federation Standard, Vulcan and Bajorian. He spent the next year at the Federation Marines 'boot camp' where he graduated with top marks in marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat and piloting skills. Once graduated he joined one of the Marines most prestigious and honourable units, the '3rd Marines rapid response unit', more popularly known as the 'Flying foxes'. This unit was one of six created soon after the start of the Dominion war to travel to any area of conflict. This front-line unit was the highest decorated during the war, but also had the highest casualty rate. Wok'tal remained in the unit for the next three years before being transferred to the USS Leviathan-A as Marine pilot under the command of Major John Phanan. Personality Wok'tal fears nothing and is loyal to both the Klingon Empire and the Federation. Some feel that if put to the test he would side with the Federation rather than his own people. He tries to live his life just like the great Klingon warrior Kale, who never backed down from a fight. Interacts well with others until pushed too far, when his Klingon temper erupts. Has a high respect for superiors, but is not afraid to speak his mind if he feels that it is necessary. Special Ability Superior strength and stamina as well as good hearing and sense of smell. He also has a lot of common sense. Hobbies Enjoys running hunting holo-programmes and keeping his flight skills sharp. He is also a 'fan' of Lieutenant Commander Worf and tries to keep track of his fellow Klingon's career. |
