Distinguishing features

Sandra has several scars on her body, the most noticeable a scar cutting across her right eye from eyebrow to cheek, plus several smaller scars on her forehead. She also has a large scar on the underside of her left forearm. It has been established that these were the result of operations performed on Sandra rather than through injuries, but their exact nature is unknown as she has no knowledge when or where they were performed.

History

Sandra was born in 2358 on the civilian research vessel, the 'SS Trummla', her parents both being scientists serving aboard the vessel. The first three years of her life were pretty uneventful, until in 2361 the 'Trummla' approached the neutral zone in order to observe a comet which was heading out of Romulan space across the neutral zone.

Sometime during this expedition the 'Trummla' was attacked by a Romulan vessel and boarded. Although the crew managed to send out a distress signal, the Starfleet vessel that responded only found debris and several bodies floating in space. After several months of inquest, the 'Trummla' was deemed destroyed by forces unknown with all souls lost. Although no contact between the Federation and the Romulan Empire had been made since the Tomed incident in 2311, acting on 'sketchy' information obtained from the Klingons, it was deemed that the attack was an isolated act by the Romulans. The evidence and events that happened were recorded and soon forgotten.

In 2371 a Starfleet vessel on patrol of the neutral zone intercepted a Romulan escape pod containing the very weak body of a thirteen year old girl, who was later identified as being Sandra Hjort.

Apart from severe hunger and the scarring on her body, Sandra proved to be a normal thirteen year old teenager, except she had no memory of the last ten years, something that all the medical examinations couldn't find a cause for. She was able to speak in Federation standard English, but only knew a few words of Romulan. She also appeared to have been given a basic education bringing her to the standard of an average nine year old.

The next six months Sandra spent working with counsellors, but they were unable to get much information about her, where she had been for the last ten years and how had she found her way into a Romulan escape pod. Starfleet also made inquiries with the Romulan government, but the origin of the escape pod were never discovered.

With no traceable family, she was placed in a Federation foster home until she reached the age of eighteen. During that time she made massive leaps in her education, catching up with the students her own age in leaps and bounds.

At the age of eighteen she left her foster parents and joined the Starfleet pre-academy program. This one year course was designed to prepare students for the four years of Starfleet academy. She enrolled in the academy in 2377 and took a security career path.

She appeared to excel at many of the self-defence techniques, something that her tutors remarked on at her graduation. She also had an excellent aim, winning the annual shooting tournament in her final year with the highest score seen in over a decade.

In 2381 she graduated from the academy and was posted at DS9 as a junior security officer. In May of 2384, she requested a transfer to a ship-based posting and in August she was transferred to the USS Leviathan-A.

Personality

Sandra is a shy girl, preferring her own company to that of others. She is especially fearful of large groups of people in a small area. Often eating alone in her quarters, she has been labelled as a 'lone-wolf' by some of the younger members of the Leviathan crew.

She rarely takes unnecessary risks, preferring to stick with duties and tasks that she knows she can achieve successful. However, she also has a stubborn streak and has a habit of speaking her mind, no matter what the consequences.

Special Abilities

A sharp eye for detail has given her a superior aim, as well as letting her see things that others might miss. This makes her an ideal security officer and she was critical in noticing small details that lead to several convictions whilst she was serving on DS9.

Hobbies

She enjoys spending time on the holodecks, practising her self-defence techniques and is currently learning basic Klingon battle techniques.
