Lucas Taline is 41. He has brown eyes, brown hair streaked with grey and stands about 5'10" tall. He is almost always calm, but is quite pessimistic.

Throughout his entire life, Lucas Taline had dreamed of being an engineer on a starship. This first started at the age five, when he saw the inside of a starship and knew from that moment that he had to be an engineer. At the  age of ten, he started to get information on the subject and began preparing himself.

In school, he took general mechanic courses which rarely involved engineering and ship repair. However, his shop teacher noticed an astute personality and recommended that he help him on a "hot rod" he had been working on. This 'hot rod' turned out to be a Federation Scout ship a friend of his teacher wanted repairing.

In a matter of days, the ship was flying again. Admiral Lowry, to whom the shuttle belonged, saw this and greatly appreciated what Taline and his teacher accomplished. Impressed, Lowry, discussed with Taline the opportunities of a young man like himself. It didn't take much to talk Taline into applying to join Starfleet. Lowry, upon Taline's request, sponsored his entry into Starfleet, where he learned surprisingly quickly. Taline specialised in engineering and starship repair, then spent time in warp mechanics.

Taline was assigned aboard the USS Skrithe, a Spry-class starship, as assistant engineer. However, this wasn't what he wanted. He wanted something better like the newly commissioned USS Enterprise-E, a Sovereign-class vessel or even a transfer to DS9 so that he could work on the USS Defiant.

Even so, he excelled and was recognised as an excellent engineer, ending up with a transfer to the USS Lambda. When the USS Gormnuu, a Galaxy-class ship, needed a senior engineer, Starfleet assigned Taline. He performed as expected and kept the ship running after a Jem'Hadar battle bug kamikaze attack all but destroyed her. Taline barely survived the attack and after reaching DS 9, spent three months back on Earth recovering.

Whilst recuperating back on Earth, Admiral Lowry now reaching retirement, visited and told Taline of the USS Leviathan prototype and the fact that they needed a Senior engineer. Thinking for a moment, Taline gratefully accepted the position.

With the death of the Leviathan's slipstream expert by a console explosion, the Leviathan's Chief Engineer Tyra was promoted sideways to take over the maintenance of the Slipstream drive. This left the position of Chief Engineer open and Captain Devore offered it to Taline, who accepted.

When Tyra was also killed, Taline was forced to learn more about the Leviathan's Slipstream drive, until Ensign ASHER arrived aboard, who took over the role of slipstream expert until the Leviathan reached the Alpha quadrant.

Since returning to the Alpha quadrant, Lieutenant Taline has been kept busy supervising the repairs to the Leviathan and working with the Advisor Eran Dukal to enhance the Leviathan's systems before setting off to find the ISS Leviathan.
