USS EINSTEIN
Starfleet Repair Facility - Bajorian Sector

Captain Devore sat at his desk aboard the Leviathan. It was still a shambles, but most of the rubble had been removed weeks ago. It had taken the Leviathan nearly two weeks to leave Romulan controlled space and another week and a half to be towed to the repair facility.

Repairs to the Leviathan had been going on for over five weeks and Devore put down the PADD he’d been reading which told him that the vessel, his vessel wouldn’t be in any fit state for at least another five. Meanwhile, somewhere out there, there was a vessel exactly like his own, manned by a crew of mirror duplicates.

Devore had been monitoring all the Starfleet channels, hoping to find something about the mirror Leviathan, but to no avail. Devore knew that the mirror Leviathan had suffered almost as much damage as his own ship and unlike his vessel, didn’t now have the backing of the Federation. If they were going to get their own vessel repaired, they were going to have to resort to extreme measures. Those sorts of things tended to show up.

Devore had made a request to Starfleet headquarters for a temporary assignment of another vessel so that he could go seek out the mirror vessel. But the reply had come back that there were no vessels available and they thought it was a waste of resources, the vessel was heavily damaged and unlikely to obtain the necessary resources.

["Bridge to Captain Devore.] A voice came over the comm.

"Devore here. What is it ?" Devore replied.

[We’ve just had a message from Lieutenant Commander Barker.] The voice replied. [It’s for you alone, Captain.]

"Put it through. Devore out."

Devore watched the message from his Chief Science officer and for the first time in nearly two months a smile crossed his face. The Lieutenant Commander had left the Leviathan, along with the hologram ASHER, Ensign Oakenshield, his wife Sierra and son Brayden. Of all the people he was looking forward to seeing, his family was at the top of the list.

The Hellcat had also taken the two ‘captives’ from the mirror universe. These two ‘visitors’ had ‘arrived’ on the Leviathan in a way no-one could fully understand. One was the mirror version of Commander T’Kul and the other the mirror of Lieutenant Dukal. Both had been aboard the mirror vessel, but had somehow appeared on the Leviathan, given many a shock. Their arrival had sparked a ship-wide search, but no-one else was found.

From what they had told the Captain, the mirror universe from which they had arrived was a very different place. The Klingons and Cardassians were both part of a slave race and the Borg had been forced to leave the Alpha quadrant alone. Only the Romulans remained powerful enough to stand up against the Terran Empire as it was know in their universe.

Devore thought back to all the reports gathered by Starfleet, from the transporter accident that had sent Captain Kirk of the Enterprise to a mirror universe, through to the many reports made by Captain Sisko and the crew stationed on Deep Space 9. This new mirror universe seemed to have many parallels with the universe discovered by Kirk, the one major difference being that in this universe the Terran Empire had continued to enforce it’s will on the Alpha quadrant.

In the Enterprise incident, Kirk had been the crucial component in changing the mind of the mirror Spock, causing a chain reaction that created the mirror universe later encountered by the crew of DS9. In this new universe however, it was if the Kirk had never ‘visited’.

Even the Dominion had been all but destroyed, the wormhole closed and Bajor destroyed by a weapon very close to a technology Devore had once read about called the Gemini device.

In Devore’s universe, this had been designed to terraform in week’s planets too hostile to live on by altering matter at the quantum level. In the mirror universe, it had been used on Bajor as a weapon, killing millions and then re-creating the planet as an inhospitable rock. Few escaped the destruction and those who did, like i-T'Kul t'Rashad fled into Romulan space. Most became a worker class within the Empire, alongside the Remans. A few, like t’Rashad, who was half Romulan were brought into the Romulan Empire and became Romulan citizens.

Devore looked out of his window towards the small round ball floating in space, it was hard to believe that in another universe, it had been all but destroyed, further in the distance the ‘flare’ of the Bajoran wormhole opening could just be seen, as could DS9.

i-T'Kul t'Rashad as she was known, was some kind of rogue Tal’Shiar agent. Originally becoming a part of the Tal’Shiar to help with the ‘war’ against the Terrans, she quickly became disillusioned with the way the Romulan Empire was fighting the Terran Empire. So she had left and started her own little war, recruiting soldiers from both the Romulan Empire and the Klingon and Cardassian slave classes.

One advantage she had was the fact that although she was also half Bajoran, she no longer had her nose ridges. They had been surgically ‘removed’ soon after her family had fled Bajor, so that she looked more Romulan. Looking Romulan also meant that she looked Vulcan, which helped her in the early days to move within the Terran Empire.

Dukal was one of her recruits and the person how had told her about the Leviathan and it’s plans to invade another dimension. But their attempts to gather the information they required and then show the evidence to the Tal’Shiar and Romulan senate had failed, leading to their capture.

Lt. Commander Barker had left with the Hellcat and taken t’Rashad and the mirror Dukal to Starfleet headquarters back on Earth. Devore had not heard from them since they’d left, until now.

"This is Captain Devore to all senior staff. There will be a meeting in one hour in the main briefing room." The Captain announced.
