February:

Iron Dog Snow Machine Race Covers over 2000 miles, making it the longest snowmachine race in the world.

March:

Nome-Golovin Snow Machine Race - A 200 mile race to Golovin and back.

Nome-Council Sled Dog Race - This is a 200 mile race.

April:

Cannonball Run - a 120+ mile snow machine lap race.

May:

Triathlon - Swim (indoors), run, and bike race.

March Iditarod Activities

Iditarod, the world's longest sled dog race, begins in Anchorage with the finish line in downtown Nome. The entire month is full of activities, a sampling of which are listed below:

Miners and Mushers Ball features live music, vaudeville, costume contest, and more.

Iditarod Dart Tournament - compete for some pretty sizable purses.

Bering Sea Ice Golf Classic 6 holes on the frozen Bering Sea

Iditarod Awards Banquet congratulate the winning dogs and mushers, and get a few autographs.

There are also various cultural events, art exhibits, dinners, craft sales, and much more. It is a great time to be in Nome!

June (Solstice Month)

Polar Bear Swim - take a refreshing dip in the Bering Sea with like-minded folks (or just watch from shore).

Midnight Sun Festival - enjoy 24-hours of daylight with dancing, food, and festivities.

Nome River Raft Race - this annual event is also one of the most popular.

July:

July 4 Games - various races (foot, gunny sack, three-legged, etc), a parade, and ice cream eating.

Anvil Mountain Run - from Front St to the top of Anvil Mountain and back again (about 10 miles).

August:

Anvil City - Dexter Run - they sure do like to run in Nome!

September:

Bathtub Race - the bathtubs own the street (Front St) at high noon on Labor Day.

Rubber Duck Race - buy a ticket, if your rubber duck drifts down the Snake River to the finish line fastest you win (cash).

Anvil Mountain Challenge - they run up and down the mountain again, this time in the evening (it must be a great view).

December:

Tree Lighting - A tree in Nome? Front Street sparkles as holiday lights are lit.

Fireman's Carnival - games, concessions, bingo, raffles, and more.
