January 1, 2005

Photos and captions by Nell Doyel.

Active members and avid walkers gathered at 9 a.m. New Year's Day to WALK of course! It was a beautiful, warm day enjoyed by everyone.

Volksmarchers gather at Naval Air Station (NAS) Air Museum to register for first volksmarch of 2005. (sprinkling rain)

Bruce handing out maps to first walkers.

Soon bright sunshine flooded Registration at "the box" on hood of Bruce's car -- because Museum is closed.

First point of interest was walking a loop around the lighthouse.

Leroy making his way along a cleared trail.

Ivan's calling cards make for "duck duck!"

Huge old Live Oak only lost one limb right in the middle of so many down.

Huge pine tree; largest we've seen around here . . . probably 30+ inches (at least Leroy says) in diameter! Lying completely on ground. Tree lies slightly to right along the white line . . . too way out of sight.

Make Christmas wherever you are! After Ivan, Christmas sprung up in all kinds of unexpected places. Note tiny tree on picnic table between vehicles and wreath on radiator of mobile home.

Some of the dirt roads and trails, and all the beach area at NAS are closed.
