These assignments are to be featured in your Web page project for final credit. Any of these not completed in the assigned classroom time are expected to be completed as homework. All assignments must be filed in your Net and/or Journalism Portfolios.

ASSIGNMENT 1: Media Guest   (Day 5: Monday April 8)
Working from the notes taken during Robert Sinclair's guest appearance in the BUNTEP classroom (presentation, discussions and Q/A session), write a news story based on what you perceive to be the highlight of  his visit. Write an appropriate headline and news lead containing the 5Ws and using the inverted pyramid style of journalistic writing.

ASSIGNMENT 1a: Editorials ~ PSAs ~ Question of the Day
Brainstorm for relevant local topics that would be appropriate for CFPX broadcast

ASSIGNMENT 2: Puk News Events (Day 6 Tuesday, April 9)
Looking back over recent months, write a series of short news stories about newsworthy events that have taken place in Pukatawagan. Create appropriate headlines and leads for each and priorize them for display in your Web newspaper.



 
 
 

ASSIGNMENT 3: Editorials (Day 7 Wednesday, April 10)
Drawing upon the ideas that have come out of our radio reporting discussion, create a series of PSAs or editorial comments on issues and concerns relevant to the Pukatawagan community. Present information, personal viewpoints and pose questions that would be of interest to Puk radio listeners and would promote phone-in discussion.



ASSIGNMENT 4: A Visit to Pukatawagan (Thursday, April 11 Prof Away)
Write a feature that would be useful to someone who is entertaining an out-of-town friend or relative and who wants to show this person points of interest in your area. Are there famous places that everyone ought to see? Can you think of some little-known places that a native might overlook at first?  Limit your "tour" to one or two days. Include practical details as well. How can these places be reached ? Are there opening and closing hours or admission fees? Is special clothing needed such as hiking shoes and rugged outer clothing? Include a simple map if it would be useful to our readers.

Prepare a series of feature stories / reviews / columns on this experience.
Topics:
Fund raising efforts ~ observations and events en route ~ anecdotes ~ impressions on BU tour ~ surprises ~ most unusual event ~ most worthwhile experience ~ likes / dislikes ~ concert description and review ~ interesting sights, sounds, people ~ most unforgettable experiences, etc. This assignment must be turned in (print, e-mail, or FAX) by May 1 to receive course credit for the work.
