or Electronic Arts in any way.
FOR ALL YOU LAWYER GUYS
(best
viewed in 1024x728 resolution, using Microsoft Word)
How to install
1. Patch
your FA so it is version 1.02.
2. Remove
all custom libraries from FA folder, if you them in earlier.
3. Back
up your original FA.exe
4. Extract
ALL FTRONSELA0.5 .lib files to your FA folder.
5. Extract
touch utility to your FA folder, if you haven’t done so already.
6. Extract
new FA.exe to your FA folder, overwriting the old one.
7. Install
FA No CD crack, unless you already have it on a CD. (Instructions will be in
fanocd readme)
8. You
may want to re-start your computer.
Note: Fake CD shouldn’t be required to launch
Fighters Anthology yet, if I remember correctly, but installing it will help
the loading times for FTRON
Requirements:
Jane’s Fighters Anthology version 1.02
Windows 95, 98, 98SE, or ME. Don’t know if it will
run with XP.
Eh… Unfortunately for those of you with slow
computers, this custom library will require a bit more of a machine to utilize
its full potential, and I recommend a moderately fast computer so when you fly
with texture detail set to high and ground detail turned on (recommended to use
best textures), it won’t lag.
This is so you can get the full effect of the
detailed textures, terrain detail, etc. Many sound effects, voice messages,
aircraft, textures, weapons, vehicles, etc. have been added, and this greatly
degrades frame rates unless you have a fast computer.
My recommended settings are terrain and object
detail are set at max.
However, if that’s not possible, try to set terrain
and object detail to medium, with best textures turned off.
Note, if you find you are flying an aircraft with rainbow stripes on it, turn Gourad shading off
About settings, it is suggested that you turn music volume to maximum, as I have changed all the music in FA. Also, please set FA screen resolution to 600x800, and turn the in-flight mirrors off. This is because many new cockpits have been added for FTRON aircraft.
Aircraft with * marked next to it are the aircraft that you will fly and fly against in this campaign, aircraft without the * may not have re-done flight envelopes or weapons.
A number of
new carriers have been created for Project FTRON; all of these also have a
tower object, which represents their control island. When placing these carriers
in a mission it is also necessary to add a tower on the carrier’s deck. It may
be necessary to switch to 3D view (3) to edit the position. The tower will stay
on the carrier no matter what.
Missions will
appear in further editions of FTRON, this is currently only the lib.
In this version of FTRON Fighters (DFAN 0.5 beta) there are two maps, Selalonia (France) and Kamei (The Falkland Islands).
Selalonia’s terrain is mostly
forest with patches of farmland, with cities and villages dotting the
countryside. There are airfields only in the northwest section of the map,
because that’s where all the activity occurs. If I added all the maps in the
southern section, there would be too many objects in the map file (.MM) and the
number of objects you could add to a custom mission would be greatly limited.
The different sky and sea textures are randomly selected.
Kamei’s terrain is snow, with
occasional docks, cities, and airfields disrupting it. There are very few
airfields in the area, as the island is for research in the campaign. The sea
and sky textures will always be in a winter theme.
Here I must make an important note
of something. The new terrain you see in the other view windows will not appear
unless you install the correct LIB. Simply put, if you are flying over
Selalonia (FTRONSELA0.5-Map.lib) be sure to have the .lib in. If however, you
are flying over Kamei, remove the Selalonia .lib and put the Kamei LIB
(FTRONSELA0.5-Kamei.lib) into your Fighters Anthology folder. This is also important
for the new sea and sky terrain to match the seasons in the map.
You may
wonder why there are only two maps in this version of FTRON, compared to the 9
maps that I used to have. Well, there are two reasons. I had to save space for
those of you not downloading with ADSL or cable, and what’s more the campaigns
will not cover those areas. I will make those maps available if you wish,
either post at the Red Bear’s Airfield Message Board http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/132685
or drop me a line at redbearfa@hotmail.com
.
Currently, the unused but decent quality edited maps
are:
Pakistan (I told the .mm to use only one tile, so the
terrain is ALL the same)
Greece (Tiles don’t match very well next to each
other)
Panama
Ukraine (Not complete, many blank tiles)
North/South Korea (Not complete, many tiles that are
only decently done)
The Baltics (Summer is complete, I want to
post this one up soon, look for it)
The Baltics (Winter version needs some updating, can be completed very quickly)

Known Bugs
Music bug, will be addressed in the FAQ section below.
New airfield problem: The new DFAN airfield in the “black area” or Northwest Lombardi is on the new added terrain, and unless you have no crashes turned on, you WILL crash if you try to land there, as technically the area there is ocean.
Due to the fact that FA will have overload problems due to too much memory being used, such as new terrain, music, sea and sky textures and etc, you may experience a sound overload during missions when there’s too much action going on. Please bear with me.
Q: Why did choose the music tracks that you chose?
A: Well, it was very tough, believe me, and those of
who have seen FTRON through from the first version know I have changed it on
almost every release. Mostly I just decide on what kind of music matches the
mood I want the pilot to be in when they hear it.
Q: Your music keeps repeating on and on after
takeoff, or after a dogfight, or after success?
A: Ah, that’s a bug I’m still trying to fix. You can
fix it by pressing Ctrl+V and activating the alternate track, and if you want
to change again, press Ctrl+V again and the soundtrack should refresh
most of the time.
Q: Why can’t I
find your new HUDs?
A: You’re probably using the wrong resolution. Be sure to use 600x800 resolution here!
Hacking this custom library
To those who wish to hack this library… Yeah yeah, I know it is not possible to stop you from doing so, but I would ask that you don’t, anything you want you ask me if you want it, I just might say yes… obviously some of the items in Project FTRON were not done by me, they were created by others that let me use their work.
I like creating more detailed terrain for Fighters Anthology, though yes I have taken terrain tiles from Game Remod, but that was because I had Centurian’s permission.. I would appreciate it if you would not put these files in your own libraries without my permission, it just… wouldn’t be right. Thanx for hearing me out.
All have been completely re-done since the last FTRON 4.0 release, you’ll find all aircraft will perform somewhat different, especially in high-speed, high-G turns, and when trying to land. Flare-out landings are now actually possible.
Some of the missiles from 4.0 had too good of a hit
chance, those were reduced. Enemy AI fighters will fire their guns more, in
larger salvos. It’ll be tougher to shoot down enemy fighters, and will be
easier to get shot down. You’ve been forewarned.
Whoo! This Custom LIB would not have been possible without a lot of help… just wanted to mention you guys here… If you guys find something you should be credited for and I didn’t credit you for it, I insist you drop a line at redbearfa@hotmail.com Thank you!
-In addition, if you see something from you that I got from you that you feel shouldn’t be there, I still insist you drop me a line at redbearfa@hotmail.com and I’ll remove it as soon as I can.
