ROCK FROG newsletter

Summer / Autumn Trips & Events

This Summer and Autumn we have had a really great series of climbing Fun Days, trips and events. There have been a number of weekends away to Snowdonia during which Rockfroggers have climbed the 500ft face of Idwal Slabs, tackled Lockwood's Chimney and a number of the climbs at Tremadog. Not to mention the odd jaunt up a few of the Snowdonia Peaks such as Tryfan, Cnicht, Moel Hebog and Y Garn.

There have also been many Fun Days for beginners in The Avon Gorge and a number of lead training days in the same location.
We'd also like to thank everyone who came along to our barbecue. Especially Lucy, for being the only girl brave enough to tackle the "Garden Shed Traverse" and Pieter for the enormous side of lamb he brought
and cooked for everyone!

Although we will be having a Winter break from indoor classes and clubs, outdoor specialised sessions will continue throughout the winter. As this newsletter is being typed, graham is taking 2 clients for extreme condition lead training in the Avon Gorge and next weekend there will be a climbing weekend to Wales for another group of clients. So you see, the fun doesn't have to stop when the clocks go back!

ROCKFROGGER ROLL OF HONOUR

BARRY MOORE contacted Rock Frog in 2002 to say that he would like to have some climbing classes but he didn't know if, at the age of 56 he was too old. He soon proved that he was not! Since joining us he has undertaken a number of challenges including a multi-pitch climb in the Avon Gorge, an ascent of Lockwood's Chimney and the mother of all scramble / climb combinations tackling the 500ft multi-pitch of Idwal Slabs, followed by a descent in to The Unknown Cwm followed by a scramble up to The Glyders and finishing with an "off" in failing light down The Miner's Track beneath Tryfan. On coming off the Mountain Barry exclaimed "I can't believe what you've just had me doing!" Yes Barry, you did it and you came back for more! Well done for all your hard work this year.

DARREN MITCHELL deserves a mention in the Rockfrogger Roll of Honour, just for being Darren Mitchell! 10 year old Darren from Hillingdon was the inspiration for and founding member of the Rock Frog Junior Club which had it's first meeting on 27th July 2002.
