The above examples will give you an idea of the general costs of activities but you need to bear in mind when you are choosing an activity, location, level of tuition and length of event or course that these various factors will have a bearing on the total cost of your activity.

One-to-one tuition costs from £17 per hour for indoor work and from £75 per day for outdoor.  (some special offers are available. Always check Latest page for special deals)

Some activities have restricted numbers to ensure that every individual gets the most from their day but for those activities that can accommodated 8 or more people there are substantial group discounts available. For instance if you book a Gorge fun day for 16 people you can be paying as little as £36 per person and further special discounts of concessions may apply.

Our pricing policy is clear and fair. To undertake outdoor pursuits safely, with professional tuition can never be "cheap" but at ROCK FROG we will offer you value for money. See the "VALUE FOR MONEY" section at the bottom of this page.

All participant in any of our outdoor events also receive a ROCK FROG PASS which can reduce the cost of future activities even further.

Value for Money The Facts
The price we charge for your activity is based on the following factors:
  • Instructional costs - The instructors that will be leading your class, activity or event have spent many years gaining their qualifications, for instance it takes, on average 1-2 year to achieve SPA, which is the basic climbing qualification. Candidates have to have a log of climbs under their belt before they can apply for training, they then have to undergo training, spend a number of months consolidating that in the field, logging all their work before taking an assessment (and hoping they pass first time!). The ML (Mountain Leader qualification) takes the same or longer to achieve. To achieve MIA (Mountain Instructor Award) can take about the same time as it takes to train a doctor! The awarding bodies are rigorous in their training and assessments because of the level of responsibility for life and safety which will be placed on the qualified instructor. In addition to this instructors will have many years experience in their field and it must also be recognised that all instructors have the burden of responsibility for the safety of their group and the safe practices of those working with them, therefore, all of the above is reflected in their rate of pay which is currently set at £17 per hour plus travelling expenses.
  • Activity Assistant costs - Most activity groups will be accompanied by an Activity Assistant or Assistants; These are individuals who have been trained to carry out tasks that will enhance the event or session or be required for safety reasons. Activity Assistants may be trained to place rigging for climbs, to support and work with the instructor with larger groups or to provide ancillary support. Their use is commensurate with the needs of the group and their rate of pay is currently set at £10 per hour plus travelling expenses..
  • Venue charge - there is a charge for using some venues but not all.
  • Equipment - Good quality safety equipment and other equipment necessary for an event or session is provided for the use of staff and clients. Rock Frog has it's own stock of equipment which must be regularly safety checked and replaced periodically following manufacturers guidelines. In addition to this, other activity specific equipment has, from time to time, to be hired from outside reputable sources. The cost of all equipment hire is included in your event cost unless otherwise stated.
  • Insurance - All instructors and Assistants must carry  liability insurance.
  • Administration - A small administration charge is levied on each activity, tuition or session  place to cover the cost of event organisation etc.

Our prices compare very favourably with all similar service providers. If you find another service provider offering far lower prices, please stop to consider if that provider is qualified (not all are), the client instructor ratio, the duration and location of events staged, the standard of the equipment used and whether there are any "hidden" charges or extras.

Cancellation Policy

Prior to Event / Session Day

When making a booking for an event, session or series of lessons, the total cost of which is or exceeds £50.00, the client will be required to pay a  minimum deposit of £20. A larger deposit may be required for certain events and in certain circumstances.

the booking deposit is non-refundable except in the event that Rock Frog Climbing Services cancel the event for any reason; in such cases the deposit will be refunded in full by cheque.

If a client wishes to cancel a booking, for whatever reason, they must inform us as soon as possible.

They may become liable for the full cost of the booking, whether or not the attend if:

  • They fail to inform us in person that They wish to cancel and will not be attending.
  • They simply do not turn up on the day of the event or session.
  • They give less than 5 working days notice that They wish to cancel Their booking.
  • The cancellation means that an entire event cannot proceed, in which case Rock Frog could have made an alternative booking and has therefore lost work / income because of They cancellation.

To ensure customer safety and satisfaction Rock Frog staff plan, assess and arrange events and sessions well in advance. As soon as an event is proposed or a booking is received, work starts on preparing a programme for Their special event or session. Preparation may involve on site risk assessments, rehearsals, hiring of additional staff, purchase or hire of additional equipment, arranging transport and accommodation and preparation of client paperwork.

We are aware that, in some cases, a cancellation cannot be avoided but we regret that because we are a small, family run concern, working on small profit margins to provide a good value for money service, our cancellation policy must be applied in all cases. So to avoid becoming liable for the full cost of  The booking on an event They cannot participate in the client must keep us informed of any problems They are experiencing which may affect Their ability to attend. Complete information about the location of the event, start and finish times, kit lists etc are available well in advance of the event and Rock Frog staff will always be happy to give advice about such things.

A copy of the Booking Cancellation Policy can be made available to anyone who asks for one.

Cancellation by the Client On The Day or At The Venue

If the session is cancelled by the client organiser on the day or at the venue they will be informed that they will be liable for the full cost of the booking. If an individual cancels on the day or at the venue, i.e changes their mind about participating, they will still be liable for the full cost of their booking.

Cancellation by Rock Frog On The Day or At the Venue

In the unlikely event that a Rock Frog Indoor Event is cancelled by us on the day or at the Venue, there will be a full refund of the booking fee including the deposit. The refund will be made by cheque as soon as is reasonably possible.

The only exception to the above rule would be when the event has to be terminated once started due to some kind of unacceptable behaviour on the part of participants. Any behaviour which is dangerous or detrimental to the enjoyment of the activity will not be tolerated and individuals behaving in an irresponsible or anti-social way may be refused permission to continue with the activity. If any one or number of people are refused permission to continue, it may not affect the ability of the rest of the group to carry on, however, having to take such action may mean that the rest of the group have problems continuing, may not wish to continue or may not make up a viable group which can continue. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR GROUP ACT IN A RESPONSIBLE MANNER TO AVOID STAFF HAVING TO SUSPEND OR CANCEL THE ACTIVITY FOR ONE OR ALL.

With regard to outdoor events our regulations regarding unacceptable, irresponsible or anti-social behaviour are the same as for Indoor Sessions.

Outdoor, Rock Frog will endevour never to cancel an event without just cause, but clients must remember that of paramount importance, at all times, is the safety and well-being of the group. It is inevitable that due to a variety of factors an event may need to be cancelled, cut short, re-arranged or amended, sometimes at very short notice or during the event itself in order that the group not be put at risk.

We make it clear that climbing and mountain walking may be affected by the weather and therefore proposed routes and venues may be changed, shortened or cancelled at short notice. We want to ensure that everyone has a good time at any of our events but above safety has to be the major consideration. We understand that any changes may cause disappointment but we will do our best to explain the need for any changes or cancellations and we would ask for your co-operation in such matters.

Participants must also bear in mind that an accident, incident, injury or other such emergency may occur during a session and such occurrences may mean that an event or session may need to be curtailed, cancelled or changed in order that the emergency can be dealt with while ensuring the safety of the rest of the party; again, in such situations we would ask for your co-operation.

If you have any questions regarding this policy, please do not hesitate to contact us.
