The Defiant is stripped of all unessential systems to allow it to be the most powerful ship of its size known. The Defiant can take much larger ships on and win but there is a certain threshold. Although it is powerful don't expect it to beat a Galaxy! The Defiants pulse cannon phasers are revolutionary but have a huge energy cost hence the lack of systems. The original USS Defiant is also equipped with a cloak and ablative hull armour. The Defiant has an extraordinarily short range due to the fact that the crew would, after a certain time, go mad due to lack of holodecks, replicators, or a decent sick bay, shuttlebay or living quarters. For that reason most Defiant Class vessels are assigned to space stations. (Note: This is my personal belief as it makes sense quite a bit. This way the crew can enjoy themselves aboard the space-station and use the Defiant for protection and missions which a Runabout cannot perform)

USS Defiant NX-74205 (Destroyed by Breen energy dampening weapon. (Note: It seems peculiar that the Defiant kept it's NX prefix when it went to DS9. Theoretically it is now in active service and should be NCC-74205.)

USS Defiant NX-74205 (Admiral Ross granted permission to the crew of the old Defiant to rename the Defiant's replacement, the USS Sao Paulo, USS Defiant and give it the old registry number of the Defiant.) (Note: This was also so Paramount could use stock footage in the battle in 'What you leave behind')
