Until recently this was the most advanced ship in Starfleet. The Galaxy has an extremely powerful offensive but is lacking shield-wise. The ship is at its best when it separates into its two parts to outgun its enemies and to become much more manoeuvrable. The Galaxy often has families on board.

(Note: It is unknown if the Galaxy is still the Federation's flagship class as the Soveriegn is obviously supposed to take over at one point. However it is certainly possible.)
