The Prometheus is Starfleet's newest and most advanced vessel. Faster than every other vessel in Starfleet the Prometheus has regenerative shielding, ablative hull armour, holoemitters throughout the vessel, and a multi-vector assault mode (or MVAM for short) This allows the ship to split up into three separate independent vessels. Although at first look the MVAM has problems, first of all what happens if a piece is destroyed? The Prometheus cannot put itself together? Also weapons and shield power would be decreased. And the Prometheus shielding already appears to be weak. However it does have tactical advantages. It means one of the pieces can get to the rear and fire on the rear shields which are the weakest until the vessel is destroyed. The shieldings regeneration also means that if the Prometheus isn't hit for a while it will regenerate to full. Also the ships ablative hull armour will provide protection from all but the meatiest weapons.

(Note: There seems to be anxiety within the fan base over the exact power of the Prometheus. For the record I believe it to be more powerful than an Akira but less powerful than a Galaxy.)
