The Steamrunner is one of the best protected ships in Starfleet. Most notable is the way the nacelles and deflector are built into a protective hull design. The Steamrunner is highly manoeuvrable and meant to carry out the same jobs as Defiant class vessels, except it is larger, better protected but with much worse weaponry. However it is capable of more long-range missions.
