Vulcan History Pre- Federation (Before 2161)

2 Millennia ago Vulcans were violent beings living out their lives on the desert world of Vulcan and fighting for the few resources available. It is believed that at one point 90% of Vulcan was at war. Terrible weapons such as the Stone of Gol were created. Then Surak came he started the 'Time of Awakening' when Vulcans cast of their terrible emotions and began to control them. They began to become logical and unemotional. However there were some who did not want to become logical and unemotional. They started a vicious civil war for one hundred years. It was unknown at the time but the Q later known as Quinn had actually started the war attempting to kill himself (Note: In 'Death Wish' it is established that at one point the Vulcans and Romulans were at war for 100 years because of one of Quinn's attempts to kill himself, I thought it was probable that this happened before the Romulans left Vulcan as Quinn was exiled C. 2072 and the Vulcans did not know the Romulans were the dissidents until TOS ep 'Balance of Terror' however this is pure logical speculation) The Vulcans eventually won the war and the Romulans were exiled from Vulcan. They wandered through space for years until eventually they landed on the twin planets of Romulus and Remus (Note: On Spock's star chart in 'Balance of Terror' Remus is called 'Remii' but the spoken dialog calls it Remus and this corresponds to the Roman legend from which Romulus is named). The Vulcans prospered and they went into a golden age. On 4 April 2063 a Vulcan Survey Ship was passing through the Sol System when it registered a faint warp signature. The humans from the Sol Systems 3rd planet, which they called Earth, had gained warp capability. The Vulcans made first contact. They described First Contact with a "savagely illogical race", however the discovery of alien life shook the foundations of human society and the humans changed to a peaceful species. However this was a gradual (Note: In 'Encounter at Farpoint' it is made clear that Earth was still recovering from WWIII in 2079 and that the atomic horror had still not ended so that the change must of been extremely gradual.) change as humanity was recovering from the aftermath of World War III. This had devastated humanity and fragmentary records suggest the death toll between 37 and 600 million humans. Eventually the Vulcans and humans joined together and the Vulcans were one of the founder species of the United Federation of Planets.
