Kuantan Wreck, Malaysia, July 2003

The Kuantan Wreck.

This ship was carrying crude oil when it sank about 20 miles off the Malaysian coast. Hence there are a few black tubes swaying around the wreck.

The wreck lies on it's port side and starts at 15 metres and hits the sand at 25 metres. At about 80 metres long it is easily circumnavigated in one dive.

This is what we do to fishing cages we find in the "marine park" around Tioman. Unfortunately finding these cages with fish trapped inside is becoming an all too common event on our dives. We found 4 on this weekend trip, not to mention a large net caught around Bahara Rock.

Whenever we find a cage we work on opening it up to allow the fish out and also we cut the ropes - hopefully making it too difficult for the fishermen to be able to retrieve the cage.

The end product - an opened cage with no fish inside.
