Starfleet Tactical Command Group: Starbase Inferno-1

Inferno-1 (Official Starfleet Designation: Starbase-1342) is a small border outpost station, located in Alpha Quadrant sector 143-Beta. This places the station in a volatile area, between Federation space and near the borders of both the Klingon Empire and the Romulan neutral zone.

It has also been positioned on the route that many Borg incursions have occurred along.

As a result, it is a somewhat busy place - a frequent trouble-spot and a major trade centre, frequented by many races moving to and from Federation, Klingon and Romulan space. It also commands a vital tactical location and has been used many times as a staging area for the defence of the Federation and her allies.

Associated with Inferno-1 is the once-proud IKC hahTA'q - a Klingon vor'Cha class Battle Cruiser with a somewhat chequered history. The hahTA'q is permanently stationed at Inferno-1 and provides a mobile operations platform when required.

Starfleet Tactical Command Group: IKC hahTA'q

When the Klingon Empire joined the United Federation of Planets - a move that was instrumental in the creation of The Starfleet Tactical Command Group, one of the many vessels to become a part of the joint fleet was the IKC hahTA'q. This once-pround vessel has, unfortunately, become known as a bad-luck ship.

It's reputation was founded with the bizarre deaths of the hahTA'q's first Tai (Captain) and his First Officer. Both were killed by a plasma explosion from a poorly-sealed conduit running under the floor of the vessel's mess-hall on the hahTA'q's maiden voyage. The reputation grew with numerous defeats in battle, mostly due to systems failures of one sort or another. One battle actually saw the hahTA'q defeated by a single Federation runabout when a transtator failed in the ship's tactical systems before either vessel had even fired a shot.

As a result of the ship's reputation, some members of the hahTA'q crews tended to develop little superstitious rituals; especially engineering crews. One long-serving engineer, for example, made a point of rubbing a particular section of conduit whenever entering or leaving the engine room (until the conduit - weakened by years of friction started to seep coolant causing a toxic pool which took the engineer three days in a bio-suit to clear up).

The hahTA'q has not had it all bad, however. It was the hahTA'q that led the attack on Cardassia Prime after the Cardassians turned on their allies after the Borg/Species-8427 Wars. It has had it's moments of glory. Although aging quite significantly now and unable to match the speeds of more modern craft, it still boasts an amazing array of weaponry which have carried many a battle in it's favour, when the ship's luck has held.

Starfleet Tactical Command Group: Omega Squadron

Omega Squadron is the newest addition to Inferno-1. As Starfleet Tactical Command realized that both the hahTA'q would not always be around to protect the vital Inferno-1, and the resources to run such a ship for just patrolling station space would be great, they knew they would need another option.

Many of the deep space vessels had found success with incorporating shuttle fighter squadrons into their defense. Tactical Command decided to take this one step further and train recruits for the specific purpose of serving within a fighter squadron. Not only this, but shuttles would not be used in the newly formed Omega Squadron, but specially modified and refitted runabouts would be used to enhance the effectiveness of the Squadron.

Occasionally, Omega Squadron is 'loaned' to ships of the fleet to carry out specific missions. This can range to the carrying of parts of the Squadron onboard SFTCG vessels, to the full out accompiniment of a vessel by the entire Omega Squadron.
