VALUE ANTIQUE/EARLY 20th CENTURY PORCELAIN/POTTERY

POTTERY - PORCELAIN - EARTHENWARE. The word pottery derives from the French "pot de terre" (earth pot). The Chinese pioneered porcelain production: their techniques were rapidly copied during the 1700s in Europe. Porcelain has transparency and finesse lacking in other earthenware. In the 19th century the numerous potteries around Stoke-on-Trent (Staffordshire, England) became renowned for the quantity and quality of their wares.
