Information: The Discovery class dreadnought has been the testbed of cutting-edge technology since the first ship was built in 2274. With a operational life of 240 Earth years (with refits every 20 years), the class has been used in Starfleet military operations for over a century. In 2274, the Discovery (NX-7000/NCC-7000) left San Francisco Yards amid a ceremony of pomp and grandeur. It remained in service for 100 years before it was destroyed by the Dominion in 2374.
In 2391, Admiral Joshua Underwood came up with a fiendishly clever idea - add more weaponry to the Discovery class to make it fit its "dreadnought" description. A large type X phaser cannon was placed in the largest antenna dish, and an additional two forward and two aft quantum torpedo launchers as well as 8 high-power phaser strips and two Klingon heavy disruptor cannons were added. The new Discovery (NX-70000/NCC-70000) was placed on duty at the Romulan Neutral Zone after destroying the stolen U.S.S. Enterprise (NCC-1701-E).
Contracts: San Francisco Fleet Yards received the contracts for Discovery (NX-7000/NCC-7000) and Korolev (NCC-7001/NCC-70001). Starbase Clannad in the Reydovan system received the contract for the other ships, while Discovery (NX-70000/NCC-70000) was built at Starbase Black Mountain.
