JAMAICA IS MORE THAN A BEACH--HERE'S SOME FUN IDEAS
- 1) Beaches---there are 3 private ones within a short walk of the house. There are public beaches like Winifred and Boston that are within a half hour drive. If that is not enough the driver Devon can take you to others.
- 2) Mountains---the famous Blue Mountains are in the area. There is a great trip through the coffee areas that takes about 2 hours.
- 3) Rivers---the nearby Rio Grande has bamboo rafting or you can just go up in the mountains and wade around.
- 4) Fishing---from just on a bamboo raft near the house or hire local fishermen to take you out in their boats or splurge and go deep sea fishing for about $100 per day.
- 5) Reggae music--lots of shops sell tapes and CDs. Meet some local wannabe stars like Buju Kid. Devon the driver known as Belly Mahn is very helpful.
- 6) Food/vegetables---have a ball, go shopping try all the fruits, drink some red stripe beer. By the way there is a bar in a local police station. Make sure to ask the officer if he is on duty before offering to buy him a drink.
- 7) Mountain village tour---We also have a two day tour to the interior mountains. Great scenery on the way and this village is very remote where they still ride donkeys to the fields and in the local churches the devout sometimes speak in tongues.
- 8) Get to know the real Rastafarians---not the rascal tourist types.
- 9) Yeah there are waterfalls too.
- 10) Nightlife? There are local bars, some have pool tables.
- 11) Shopping? Good handicrafts, pharmacy, supermarkets and open markets. You can get most things you need there.
MY STAFF
- One of the best parts of any country are the locals. And my staff Devon and Jennifer are like family to me. I have known them for over 25 years and they add so much fun and depth to your understanding of Jamaica. Do not hesitate to ask them.
