Personal History:
Kevin or "Casey", as he is better known by his friends, is the third of three boys. He was born in space while his parents served aboard a freighter. They were returning from a round trip to Vulcan when his mother gave birth to him prematurely, by about a month. Both his mother and father were employed by a transport company. His father had always been an engineer as long as he had been employed. His mother had been a navigator on a freighter when she met his father. Rather than being planet bound, the family decided to live on a Starbase that the transport company had a major hub out of.
The Early Years:
As a young boy, he had always been fascinated by the many people and cultures he was exposed to that passed through the station. While his brothers were more inclined to be like their father, more of the mechanical whiz kids, Kevin found his best times listening to stories from others about their ways of life. It was here he developed a love for coin collecting or more precisely, currency collecting, as not all cultures used coins. They represented symbols of the diverse cultures. Each one told a story.
Teen Years:
The Wood family had a long tradition of space service extending back many generations. Many of them tended to be involved in the Engineering fields and it had become expected to follow in those footsteps. Kevin and his brothers had gone on more than a few runs with their father, working as apprentice engineers. Kevin was good, but not as good as his brothers. His heart and mind weren't really into working with machines.
Early adult years:
After graduating school he followed in the traditions of his family, running the ships that spanned Federation space. He applied to and was accepted into Starfleet. He completed the rigorous classes and graduated 285 out of a class of 400. Not as high as his father would have liked, but at least he was an engineer. Kevin was assigned to an Excelsior class ship as a young ensign. He worked hard to do what was expected of him, but he was never truly happy. During a diplomatic mission, he was assigned as an assistant to the diplomatic team. His work within the team and for the ambassador peaked his interest like nothing before. He couldn't wait until the next day to continue with the mission. Once the mission was over, he requested a transfer to the diplomatic section of the ship. It was first denied, but with some persuasion from the ambassador, the captain relented
and allowed Kevin to work on a temporary basis in the diplomatic section, while still being technically assigned to engineering. He made Lt. Jg. before leaving the ship and requested to formally transfer into the diplomatic corps. The request was granted.
His second posting was aboard a starbase that had a dedicated diplomatic office. He was able to train and work in the office with for two years before finally making Lieutenant in an On The Job Training capacity. He threw himself into his work and rapidly made his way through the training, even accompanying Ambassadors on missions. It was here that Kevin found his niche in life. For him, it was like being a kid again, meeting all of the strange and wonderful cultures he had a facination for. With a reorganization of personnel and ships, Kevin was then given his first posting after training in the diplomatic corps. He was assigned to an Akira class ship as a Diplomatic Officer.
