Romans 3:9b all (natural) men are under sin {held down by
and subject to its power and control}.amp.
Romans
6:2 How can we who died to sin live in it any longer? amp.
In this lesson, I’m going to show you how to get free of sins power. Sin wants to trap you and destroy your life. I will show you how to say no to sins thoughts. The war you fight with sin starts in your mind. If you can control your thoughts, make your thoughts agree with God’s thoughts, then half your battle will be over.
Romans
6:4 We were buried therefore with Him by the baptism into death,
so that just as Christ (the Anointed One) was raised from the dead by the
glorious power of the Father, so we too might habitually live in newness of
life.
V.5 For
if we have become one with Him by sharing a
death like His, we shall also be one with Him in sharing His
resurrection by a new life lived for God.
V.6 We
know that our old (un-renewed) self was nailed to the cross WITH Him
in order that our body (flesh) which is the instrument of sin, MIGHT BE MADE INEFFECTIVE AND INACTIVE
FOR EVIL, that we no longer be the SLAVES of sin. Amp
The un-renewed self is the old nature. Body doesn’t mean our natural body, but our
flesh, or the old man, the old nature, the old way of thinking and doing.
We were nailed to the cross with Jesus. We were made one with Him. We died with Him. Our old sinful nature died when we became born again. We were buried with Jesus when He was
buried. That’s one reason we practice
water baptism.
V.7
For when a man dies, he is freed (loosed, delivered) from the power of
sin. amp
When you are born again, you are legally
delivered from sin, or the power of sin.
Sin shall no
longer have dominion over you.v.14 amp
Sin no longer has the power to boss you
around. However, you have to enforce your authority over sin. Sin won’t just leave you alone because it’s
the law, anymore than a thief won’t steal just because stealing is against the
law. You are like the police officer;
you have to enforce the law on the criminal, sin. Forcefully, you have to make sin leave you alone.
How do you do that? First of all, you have to know what the Word
of God says about sin and your dominion over sin.
V.8
Now
if we have died with Christ, we believe
that we shall also live with Him. Amp
V.10 For
by the death He died, He died to sin {ending His relation to it} once for all;
and the life that He lives, He is living to God in unbroken fellowship with
Him. Amp
Therefore, we can say the same thing. For by the death I died with Christ, I died
to sin, ending my relationship to it, forever.
Now, the life that I live, I am living to God in unbroken fellowship
with Him. I do not HAVE to sin, and
Satan knows it. Nevertheless, he’ll try
to trick us into thinking we have no choice, but to sin. He’ll come to us and whisper in our ear;
only we won’t know it’s him until we learn how he operates. He’ll say, Come on, you know you want to do
it. In addition, you have no choice
anyway, since you have no self-control.
"That’s not true, devil," you tell
him. One of the fruit of the spirit is
self-control. Therefore, yes I do have
self-control, because the Word of God says I have self-control. In addition, I can do all things through
Christ who strengthens me. Therefore, I
win over sin, Mr. devil, ha, ha, ha, and you lose! Now sin, go away from me in Jesus Name! Granted, its not this cut and dry. You have to get the Word down into your spirit about who you are
in Christ, and how you’ve died with Him, and have been buried with Him. If you're buried with Him, then you're dead
to sin. Consequently, you don’t have to
sin anymore. That doesn’t mean you
never will sin, but the good news is you have something legal to fight back with
and win. We can resist the devil and he
will flee from us when we submit to God.
Galatians
5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit {the work which His Presence accomplishes}
is love, joy, peace, patience (an even temper, forbearing with one another),
kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
v.23
Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint). Against such things, there is no law. Amp
James
4:7 So be subject to God. {or submit to God} Resist the devil {same thing, resist sin} (stand firm against him) {stand firm against sin} and he will flee from
you. {sin will flee from you} amp
amp Romans 6:11 Even so CONSIDER YOURSELVES ALSO DEAD TO SIN AND
YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO IT BROKEN, BUT YOU ARE MADE ALIVE TO GOD in Christ Jesus.
The word consider is very interesting. One meaning of the word is to think
about. Think about yourself dead to sin
and alive to God. Dwell upon it,
meditate on it, and reflect on it; study the Word concerning it. Think about this over and over until you
believe it is true in your life. As a
man thinks in his heart, so he is. You
are what you think you are. You can
become what you think you can become.
Nothing shall be impossible to you. You can break away from sin if
you want it bad enough.
Proverbs
23:7 For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.amp
Matthew
19:26 Jesus looked at them and said, With men this is impossible, but all
things are possible with God. Amp
amp Romans 6:12 Let not sin therefore rule as king in your mortal
bodies, to make you yield to its cravings and be subject to its lusts and evil
passions.
You are _________ to sin and ________to God.
Matthew 12:40 for just as JONAH WAS THREE DAYS AND
THREE NIGHTS IN THE BELLY
OF THE SEA MONSTER, so will the Son of Man be three
days and three nights in the heart of the earth
Hell is in the heart of the earth. It’s not talking about his body. His body was not in the heart of the earth. It was only in a tomb. His spirit was in the heart of the earth where hell is located. Science says the core of the earth is extremely hot. Granted it was His spirit there, and hell is not a physical place, but a spiritual place.
Ephesians 4:8 Therefore it says, "WHEN HE ASCENDED ON HIGH,
HE LED CAPTIVE A HOST OF CAPTIVES, [He led a train of vanquished foes]
AND HE GAVE GIFTS TO MEN."
4:9 [But
He ascended?] Now what can this, He ascended, mean but that He had previously
descended from [the heights of] heaven into [the depths], the lower parts of
the earth?
4:10 He Who descended is the [very] same as He Who also has ascended high
above all the heavens, that He [His presence] might fill all things (the whole
universe, from the lowest to the highest).
Where did the
captives come from? Ascended is talking
about when God raised Jesus from the dead, but He also raised Him from
hell. While Jesus was in hell, he
preached salvation to the captives and stole the keys of death, hell, and the
grave away from Satan.
What is the opposite of heaven? Hell. Therefore, the
depths or the lower parts of earth would be Hell.
Revelation 1:18 and the living One; and I was dead, and behold,
I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and of
Hades. (Hell)
The
flesh and blood body is not what is important.
It’s the spirit. Jesus didn't
take sin on his body for us he took sin into His spirit. What happens to a person's spirit who is not
a Christian when he dies? He goes to
hell, right? Therefore, if Jesus truly
took my sin into His spirit, then it would make sense that he would then have
to go to hell. He had to pay the price
for you and I. If He didn't go to hell
for us.. Then, guess what? We have to go there for ourselves. We were
guilty of prison for life, and Jesus came and said, "No! I will go to prison in her place! I will go to hell in her place. Send me there, so she doesn't have to go." That is what happened. Then, after three days, The Father who is
the Judge said, "It is enough.
Jesus has paid the price for sin, and Father God raised Him from the
dead. Now we, who were sin, are now
made the righteousness of Jesus Christ. As He became sin for us, He turned
around and made us righteous, before we did anything that was righteous. When a person is born again, he is made the
righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
Jesus took our sin on His own body on the cross. He literally became sin for us so we could
be set free from the clutches of sin.
When Jesus was buried, He took that sin down into the grave with
Him. Jesus paid the price for our sin
by being tortured, by dying on the cross, and by being buried. Paying our spiritual debt, He was sent to
hell for three days. While He was in
hell, He became born again, the first born among many. He was the first born again man. Jesus took our sin, and gave to us in
exchange for our sin, His righteousness.
We are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. It’s not our righteousness, because we’ve
done nothing to deserve it. Our
righteousness is as filthy rags in the sight of God. However, Jesus gives us His righteousness to replace our
sin. All we have to do is believe what
He has done for us, accept this, and receive His righteousness.

Pulling Down Strongholds
(2 Corininthians 10:4-5) For
the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of
strongholds; (casting down) imaginations, and every high thing that exalts
itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity (every thought) to the obedience of
Christ. Kjv.
The attack
starts in the mind
Satan’s primary attack is in the mind. He begins his
battle in our thoughts. Casting down imaginations. Wicked imaginations are from the
devil. We are to pull down Satan’s strongholds and
cast down his thoughts, which
produce evil imaginations. We are to
have the mind of Chris, and think His
thoughts. Jesus’ thoughts will
set us free. Thinking on the Word of
God will set our minds free.
