We were in the lounge when it happened. I was getting my third cup of coffee from the replicator, hoping to finally awaken after a long night of tossing in my sheets. My shift was only moments away and I was not particularly eager to Captain my ship. As I took a stinging sip I burned my tongue, and cursed, nearly dropping the mug on the floor.
"Problem, Captain?" Tom grinned up at me from his seat, looking far too perky and eager for my taste.
"No. It's fine. But we need to fix this damned thing soon though or I'll be in sickbay with third-degree burns before noon."
He smiled. And when he did, I felt my heart and stomach flip so quickly that they seemed to change position in my body. He must've sensed my reaction because before I could do or say anything further, he was there in front of me, cradling my stinging hand in his palms.
"Kathryn, are you alright?"
I nodded, unable to form a reply. He was too close. He smelled too good. And my attraction to him was stronger than it had ever been. I was not in control and I knew it, yet rather than back my way out of there and run for the turbolift, I leaned closer, unable to resist.
"I'm fine, Tom. No harm done."
His blue eyes latched onto mine so intensely that I felt myself shiver. "Are you sure?"
I swallowed. Hard. He was leaning towards me, touching my cheek with an open palm, drinking me in as though I were a taste of a rather enchanting bouquet of wine.
"Tom…"
"Shhh….let me make it better." Wiping my hand on a towel, he brought it to his lips and kissed it softly. Then, without warning, he pulled me towards him, planting his lips the vulnerable underside of my neck.
I shivered again, feeling cold shocks vibrate through my body as he made his way up my neck and onto my upturned mouth. I'd secretly dreamed of this moment for years, but I never expected it would happen. Not really. But since it had, I was not going to waste the opportunity. Sparing a quick look over his shoulder to make certain we were alone, I then closed my eyes and gave as good as I got. The kiss must've effected him as much as it had me because
when we pulled apart, I saw his reaction…
Shivers.
