Class History: The Dawnstar class Light Cruiser represents the cutting edge and flagship of the whole Starfleet Light Cruiser range of Starships. The Dawnstar class shares its history with the Ambassador and Galaxy class vessels which shows in the graceful lines of the Dawnstar class vessels. The Dawnstar class fits the multi-role purpose with great ease and contains excellent scientific equipment and ideal tactical systems for a vessel with a total crew of three hundred and eighty five and twenty decks with an additional two decks held in reserve.

For scientific duties the Dawnstar class uses the brand new 5th generation sensor suite and the Holographic Command and Science Centre which has seen a lot of success in its deployment among the fleet since its birth in the Heinlein and Ajax class vessels. The new 5th generation sensor systems include further ability to scan on multiple resolutions with over five thousand channels being processed at once during scans and a cycle of less then a tenth of a second per sensor scan. Additionally the new generation sensor system has the ability to monitor multiple larger craft and more importantly smaller vessels such as the recent trend of technology the new generation of fighters such as the Typhoon class fighters.

Tactical systems current trends include standard hull mounted phasers and Quantum torpedoes and additionally the newer Meson phasers which have seen a lot of success in the Hannibal class and Lightning class vessels. Continued defensive systems have also been maintained with the continued use of the multi-resolution adaptive shield system which is now a Starfleet trend as well as the use of the ‘Nettle’ Defensive system.

With the continuing hostilities presently in the Federation against other species the use of speed is essential amongst Starships and this has seen the introduction of the Slip-Stream drive being included in this vessel. Additionally multi-role assignments also require the use of smaller craft and the Dawnstar class has a multiple compliment of shuttle crafts ranging from Work bee class pods to the brand new Typhoon fighter.

As has been shown the Dawnstar class has the best systems Starfleet Engineering can supply and although designed for science it is likely that the vessel will be used as the head of a squadron of Destroyers or Frigates for border patrols. During the Dawnstar shakedown will only the true nature of the Dawnstar Class be shown.
