With the popularity of the 3 3/4" Star Wars line released by
Kenner, many companies including Mego struggled to compete. In addition to
the standard 8" scale, many lines in the late 70's and early 80's were also
released in the 3 3/4" size. The CHiPs line is a good example of this. Mego did a pretty good job on the 3 3/4"
CHiPs line, but it was not as good as the 8" versions. Where the
8" figures had many accessories, the 3 3/4" came only with
helmets. The addition of a couple of bad guys to the line which only
included Ponch, Jon and Sarge in 8" scale was a plus, but not enough to
really make the line great. The two bad guys, Jimmy Squeaks and Wheels
Willy, were actually just made from parts from a couple of figures from the C.B.
McHaul series. These two are so common in the package that you can easily
find them on really nice cards for $10 or less. Motorcycles were available
for both the 8" and 3 3/4" figures.
