Not Quite Paradise- 2

Gia awoke the next morning to the strong aroma of her favorite french vanilla flavored coffee.The scent wafted through the halls until it reached her bedroom, flowing under the door and filling every corner of the room. The thought of a nice hot cup of what Gia considered to be the best coffee there was, encouraged her to spring from her bed. She ran into the bathroom, threw on a purple satin robe, tossed her hair on top of her head in a lazy ponytail and jogged down the stairs to the kitchen. When she finally found her way to it, she found no one there. She heard voices coming from the dining room and directed her footsteps in the way of the conversations. She peeked her head through the doorway and found Nikolas sitting at the insanely large table, with Simon in the chair next to him. It was Nikolas who spotted Gia first and his head lifted as his eyes wandered her body. He had never seen her in pyjamas before, but oh what a sight it was. He allowed his eyes to devour every inch of her before Simon interrupted his view.

"Mommy, mommy!!!" he screamed, sliding his chair out and sprinting over to Gia. She scooped him up in her arms and held him against her as she kissed his forehead.

"Morning baby, did you sleep good?" she asked, placing him on the ground, but still holding both of his hands in hers.

Simon bit his bottom lip as he nodded. Then he leaned into her and whispered in her ear, "Mommy, I made a mess of my room." he pulled back and put a hand to his mouth, as he tryed to muffle his giggles. The little boy's personality made her laugh, even though she found nothing funny about it. She wasn't angry, she jsut couldn't see the humor that Simon found in it. Then again, a child's mind is on a completely different level than an adults.

"And guess what else mommy?" the little boy prodded.

"What?" she replied.

"Uncle Nikolas gave me the cartoons in the newspaper and the Snoopy sat in a pie, and got all dirty!!!! He should've been lookin where he's was going!" he informed her, with a serious, dictative look on his face.

"That's right, he should have." Gia agreed nodding her head. She was surprised that Nikolas even got a newspaper with cartoons in it. She expected him to only be delivered the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, all that business junk he was so interested in.

"Mommy, guess what else?" the little boy said, tugging on her robe.

"What honey?" she was amazed at Simon's ability to change subjects so quickly and still know what he's talking about every second.

"Uncle Nikolas made you the coffee you like lots, he said it would be for you when you wake up. He said he remember you sayin you likes it, so he bought it for you." Simon said, turning to Nik, and giving him what he thought was a subtle wink, but that really wasn't possible for a child of Simon's age. Gia bit her tongue to keep from laughing as she saw Nik's face turn red.

"That's great sweetie, thank you Nikolas." she said, facing him then redirecting her attention to her son. "I think I'll go get some, it is that wonderful smell that woke me up after all."

"That's not necessary." Nik said, shaking his head. "Lucy!!!!!" he yelled.

"No...THAT is not necessary. Nikolas, I'm perfectly capable of pouring myself a cup of coffee, you don't have to yell for a maid!" she said, her eyes stern and forceful. Just as Gia was about to go off in a fit of rage Lucy arrived in the doorway.

"Yes, Mr Cassadine?" she asked promptly, her outfit smoothed down nicely and her hair up in a neat bun.

"No, Lucy, go on, it's alright. We don't need anything." Gia told her, touching her arm as she spoke. Nik shot Gia an angry look, but when Lucy looked over at him for confirmation, he nodded his head and she left the room.

"Gia, why the hell did you do that?! That's what she's there for, she--"

"Ohhhhh." Simon gasped, his eyes wide as he slapped a hand over Nik's mouth. The action caught Nik off guard and he froze as he stared down at Simon, his hand still glued to Nik's mouth. "Uncle Nikolas, you said a baaaaad word!!!"

"Yes Uncle Nikolas, I think you'd better apologize." Gia said, nodding her head as she carefully pulled Simon's hand from Nik's face.

Nik looked confused, but then remember that there was a child in the room, and he had used the word 'hell'. Nik didn't consider it that awful a word, but apparently, Simon did.

"I'm terribly sorry Simon, I don't know why I did that. Sometimes my tongue slips away on me-" a thought instantly popped into Nik's brain, of him kissing Gia, and his tongue slipping away on him then. "-it won't happen again, I promise."

Simon looked doubtful as he put a finger to his mouth, squeezing his lips together and scrunching his eyebrows as he thought. "Okay, you're forgiven. But don't let it happen again!" he scolded.

Nik was surprised with his stamina, but realized that he got it from his mother.

"Now Simon, sweetie, you're going to have to clean up your room right after breakfast, or else....." Gia shook her head as she turned sideways looking at the wall, with a pout plastered on her face.

"Or else what, mommy?" Simon asked, his hand to his mouth, wide-eyed as he awaited his mother's response.

"Well, you know that this is a castle right?" she asked, leaning closer to her son's face.

"Yeah..." Simon said, his eyes growing bigger by the minute.

"Well, if you don't clean your room, Uncle Nikolas lets the dragon out! And you know what the dragon does to little boys who don't clean their rooms....."

Simon gasped in horror as he ran from the room. Gia heard him screaming to Lucy.

"Oh Lucy Lucy, come quick, I have to clean my room before the dragon gets me!!!!" he cried, as he grabbed Lucy's hand and dashed up the stairs.

Gia chuckled as she turned back to Nik, taking Simon's chair and drinking the coffee she had dashed out to get a minute before.

"That boy has quite an imagination." Nik stated as he watched Gia take a sip of her coffee. The small action caused him to burn with desire. The desire he had sworn would never happen. He promised Lucky he would take care of Gia financially, not in any other sense. But at this very moment, he couldn't help but want to take care of her in more ways than one.....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Not Quite Paradise- 3
The day after Gia's nightmare of a wedding had been a pleasant one. Simon had his room sparkling for fear that a fire breathing dragon would eat him, and Nik seemed to be softening up by Simon's presence in the house. But she had noticed Nik had been rather tense all day, ever since their breakfast that morning. She was sitting in the library, looking at the tremendous variety of books, trying to settle on just one for the time being. She had just chosen a book, 'Janie's Girl' by Gayle Freisen, when the library door opened and Nik walked in.
"Oh, hi Nikolas." she greeted him with as much of a smile that she could manage. She was beginning to see a sliver of human emotion in him, but she still couldn't stand the man.
"Hello Gia, I just thought I'd come and tell you that I have to go overseas for a couple of days, I'll be back Wednesday." he informed her, grabbing a tourism book from the nearest shelf.
"Oh," Gia said, not sure what exactly to think of the situation. She had a question itching at the back of her head and she burned to ask it. "Umm, is it a business trip?"
"Yes, I have some business in Greece to deal with. Cassadine Empire, you know." he said with a wave of his hand.
"Oh, yeah, I know." Gia replied, nodding. Her initial thought had been that he was going on a trip with a woman, and his explanation still hadn't convinced her. "Alright, so when are you leaving?"
"Tonight." he stated. He didn't have business, but having Gia around, secuding him without any effort at all had taken it's toll on him and he needed to get out for a while.  "I leave at 7:00."
"Okay." Gia nodded, putting her book back on it's shelf and leaving the library. As soon as she was out of Nik's sight, she burst into sprint, and when she reached her room, she locked the door behind her and collapsed onto her bed. She didn't know what had her in such a fit, but she couldn't stop the tears from flowing. Then in a split second, she sat up and wiped the tears from her cheeks.
"What is wrong with me?" she asked herself. "He's going away on business, not with a woman. And even if he was with a woman, why should I care? We're not even REALLY married, it's just for the money. But why is this bothering me so much? Do I have feelings for that cold, vicious man? No, I don't, i couldn't! God I hope not....."
