Not Quite Paradise- 4

Nik sat at his desk in his room with is head in his hands as he thought about what he was doing. He was going on a trip, for 3 days, to get away from Gia. He had planned on this being a leisure trip, but his uncle had called and said that there was Cassadine business that had to be dealt with. That's what he told Gia, but he didn't think it was true at the time. His mind rewound to that morning, when Gia had walked into the dining room in a nightgown and a sheer satin robe. Nik and Gia had only known each other for a few years, and when Lucky and Gia got married, and had little Simon, Nik just hated Gia even more. He had always been jealous of the fact that Lucky could settle down with a woman and have a family, because as prince and heir to the Cassadine fortune, Nik didn't have the luxury of going on dates, or finding time to settle down with the right woman. Gia was cocky, and rude and Nik had always disliked her. But it seemed now, with Lucky gone, she shone in a new light to him, it was like a completely different Gia. She still had the same looks, and personality, but now, he looked at them positively and saw the good things in her, like Lucky had when he was alive. But the fact was that Nik couldn't have Gia. Even though Lucky was gone, she was still his, and he knew that Gia would never break her commitment to him, at least not so soon after his death. Nik continued to study Gia's body in his mind, replaying this morning, when Simon walked into his office.

"Hiya Uncle Nikolas!" he screeched, running into the room and hopping into his lap.

"Hey there Simon." Nik replied, putting his arms around the boy's waist as Simon sat in his lap and leaned back like an airplane.

"Vroom, vroom." Simon squealed.

The light in Simon's eyes was as bright as his mother's and Nik couldn't help but think about her...

~*~Gia's Room~*~

It had been an hour since Nik had told Gia that he was going on a trip, and for some reason, unknown to Gia, she had been extremely shooken up by it. She had decided that a cold shower would make her feel better. She stood under the showerhead and let the water rush over her, washing away all of her troubles. The cool liquid spraying over her body gave her goosebumps and Gia opted to turn on the hot water faucet. Soon scalding hot water was cascading over her, and steam was rising up to the ceiling of her bathroom. Water swished around her feet, on the hard ceramic tiles, and Gia grabbed her puff and lathered it with thick bubbles. The peach scent of her body wash filled the room and Gia let the scent sooth her. Before now, she was Lucky's wife, and Nik paid no attention to her. But it seemed that ever since Lucky died, Nik had been noticing her more each day. Like that morning at breakfast, he was looking at her intently, and it made her nervous. She had been catching Nik staring at her lately and the truth was, she was staring back. He had just been Lucky's older brother, no one to bother with, or even pay any notice to, and Gia had always disliked him. Lucky was fun and full of energy, whereas Nik was all work no play. Not her kind of guy. But she had found something in him, something that she suspected most people didn't see, something she had to search very hard to find. But she saw it when he was with Simon. He was kind and caring, everything Gia wanted for her son to have around him. Due to her notice of Nik's unpresented emotions, she found him alot more physically attractive as well. She had found his dark eyes intimidating before, but now she found them warm and inviting. He had a smile that could light up the room, the few times he showed it, and his body....well, if you saw it, you wouldn't need a reason either. But she didn't dare tell Nik any of this. For fear. Fear of rejection, fear of a loss, fear of demolishing anything her son might have the opportunity for, fear of losing herself.  She reached out and turned the water faucet until it stopped flowing and stepped out of the shower to get her towel. When she stepped out, she screamed in horror.

"AHHHHHH!!!!!!"
