Not Quite Paradise- 6

Nik stood at the front door of Wyndemere, dressing in a long black coat, ready for his departure.

"Okay, I gave Lucy some orders, you'll be fed all of your meals, she will keep the house clean. Anywhere you need to go, Brett will take you, understand?" Nik dictated, raised his eyebrows.

Gia made a face and nodded, she didn't like having to be taken care of. She could take care of herself and her son, but oh well, as long as they were there, they might as well enjoy it. Gia would've enjoyed it so much more if Nik were there with them. Gia wanted him with them for their meals, which he was. For their playtimes with Simon, which he was. In her bed at night, which he wasn't. The first two events she wanted would be happening again by Wednesday, but him in her bed...it would never happen.

"Alright." Nik nodded. He looked down at Simon, who was grasping his mother's leg, and knelt down to his height. Simon slowly walked around Gia and when he was standing right in front of Nik, he pounced on him, causing him to fall backwards, with Simon right on top of him, laughing hysterically. Nik too laughed, which caught Gia slightly off guard. She had seen things she hadn't seen before in Nik. She had seen him smile, she had seen him open up, but she had never heard him laugh. The sound of his laughter echoed through the huge stone walls of the castle, and it was a sound so sweet, Gia never wanted to let it go. Once Nik had arisen from the ground and said goodbye to Simon, Simon was out the door and in the kitchen, baking cookies with Lucy. Nik turned to Gia, wanting to hold her, wanting to kiss her, wanting what he couldn't have.

"Wednesday." Nik said.

"Wednesday." Gia nodded.

He bent over and brought his head down, and Gia couldn't bear another second without his lips covering hers. Just as their lips were about to meet, Nik turned his mouth, and kissed her quickly on the cheek. Gia was so shocked that she didn't move, didn't speak, didn't breathe, until several minutes after Nik left and Simon ran in, jumping into her arms. Gia shook her head and let out her breath, before speaking.

"Simon, baby, what is it?" she asked, squeezing her son tight in her arms.

"Mommy you have to try the cookies I baked, them yummy!!" he squealed.

"Alright sweetie, I'll be right there." Gia nodded, and Gia lept out of his arms and back into the kitchen. Gia stood by the window, and pushed the curtains back with her hand. She watched until the car was completely out of sight, then she sighed and slid to the ground, where a single tear fell from her eyes, and landed on her hand.
